Petroselinum crispum extract ameliorates scopolamine-induced cognitive dysfunction: role on apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress

Goksel Sener et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effects of Petroselinum crispum extract on brain damage induced by scopolamine in an Alzheimer's disease model. The results showed that PC extract improved cognitive impairment, reduced neuronal apoptosis, alleviated oxidative stress, and decreased acetylcholinesterase activity. Therefore, PC may have the potential to prevent AD.

Evaluation of the Knowledge Level, Practice and Attitudes of the Caregivers on Ketogenic Diet Management

Sinem Bayram et al.

Summary: This study investigated the knowledge level and adherence to ketogenic diet among caregivers of children with intractable childhood epilepsy. The effectiveness of the diet was found to be associated with the caregivers' knowledge level, with higher knowledge levels leading to better management of the ketogenic diet.

Alzheimer disease

David S. Knopman et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments. The pathophysiology involves a complex interplay of loss of synaptic homeostasis and dysfunction in endosomal/lysosomal clearance pathways. Therapeutic options are still being sought to substantially alter the clinical course of individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Hallmarks of lens aging and cataractogenesis

Tayler F. L. Wishart et al.

Summary: Lens homeostasis and transparency rely on the function and intercellular communication of its epithelia, and the breakdown of oxidative stress repair systems can lead to imbalanced redox homeostasis in the lens, ultimately resulting in the onset of cataractogenesis.

Oxidative Stress Markers and Antioxidant Enzymes in Children and Adolescents with Depressive Disorder and Impact of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in Randomised Clinical Trial

Barbora Katrencikova et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress is believed to be involved in the pathophysiology of depressive disorder, with markers of oxidative stress increased and antioxidant protection decreased in pediatric and adolescent patients with DD. Supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to reduce oxidative stress in these patients, suggesting a potential therapeutic intervention.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease has a significant impact on individuals and society as a whole, with a large number of patients in the United States and a potential for continued growth in the future. The value of unpaid caregivers has increased despite a decline in their numbers, and healthcare costs are on the rise. Racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare persist, highlighting the need for greater diversity in dementia care workforce and clinical trials.
