Essential Oils of the Podocarpaceae Plants Nageia wallichiana (C. Presl) Kuntze and Podocarpus pilgeri Foxw and Their Antimicrobial Activities

Ninh The Son et al.

Summary: Essential oils from the leaves and twigs of Podocarpaceae plants Nageia wallichiana and Podocarpus pilgeri, grown in Vietnam, were extracted and analyzed. The major components of N. wallichiana oil were alpha-pinene and germacrene D, while alpha-pinene, totarene, pimara-8,15-diene, beta-caryophyllene, and isopimara-8(14),15-diene were the major compounds in P. pilgeri oil. The oils showed antimicrobial activity against various bacteria and yeast.

Chemistry and Bioactivity of Croton Essential Oils: Literature Survey and Croton hirtus from Vietnam

Ngoc Anh Luu-dam et al.

Summary: Using essential oils derived from Croton hirtus, this study found that the essential oil exhibited strong biological activities against mosquito larvae, snail adults, and microbial infections. The dominant components in the C. hirtus essential oil were sesquiterpenoids. Further research on unstudied Croton species is needed to explore their potential for controlling vector-borne diseases.

Essential oil of Syzygium boisianum (Gagnep.) Merr. & LMPerry: Chemical compositions, antimicrobial activity, and molecular docking

Le Thi Huong et al.

Summary: The essential oil extracted from the Vietnamese Syzygium boisanum leaves was analyzed using GC/FID-MS. Forty-five compounds were identified, with sesquiterpene hydrocarbons being the major chemical class. The antimicrobial assay showed that the essential oil exhibited similar activity to streptomycin against three Gram-positive bacteria. Docking studies suggested that the major compounds in the essential oil could potentially inhibit bacterial DNA gyrase B.

Essential oils of Uvaria boniana - chemical composition, in vitro bioactivity, docking, and in silico ADMET profiling of selective major compounds

Son Ninh The et al.

Summary: GC-MS/GC-FID analysis of Uvaria boniana leaf and twig essential oils revealed multiple constituents with antimicrobial and antiinflammatory activities. Phytochemical investigation showed that the twig oil was more effective in inhibiting the growth of bacteria and fungi compared to the leaf oil, while both oils exhibited antiinflammatory properties. Docking simulations suggested potential antibacterial properties of certain compounds, making them viable candidates for further drug development.
