Enhanced Performance of Palladium Catalyst Confined Within Carbon Nanotubes for Heck Reaction

Zhengxiu Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, the catalytic performances of Pd nanoparticles located in different regions of CNTs for the Heck reaction were compared. It was found that the catalyst with Pd NPs located on the internal surface of CNTs (Pd-in-CNT) showed higher activity compared to the one with Pd NPs attached on the external surface of CNTs (Pd-out-CNT). The Pd-in-CNT also exhibited lower leaching of Pd species during the reactions.

Catalytic performance of palladium nanoparticles encapsulated within nitrogen-doped carbon during Heck reaction

Xiaoyan Pei et al.

Summary: The Confinement effect is an effective strategy for enhancing catalyst performance during reactions. Encapsulating palladium nanoparticles within a N-doped carbon layer resulted in lower reaction activation energy and higher catalytic activity compared to palladium nanoparticles attached to the external surface of the layer. The superior catalytic performance of Pd@N-C can be attributed to the spatial restriction effect of the cavity in the case of the former, leading to lower leaching and improved catalytic efficiency.
