Importance of the Hubbard U parameter to explore accurate electronic and optical behaviour of BiFeO3

Supriya Ghosal et al.

Summary: Based on the Hubbard U corrected density functional theory, this study critically explores the electronic and optical responses of multiferroic Bismuth ferrite. By considering the Hubbard U parameter for Fe-3d states as well as O-2p states, accurate band gap description and optical characteristics of BFO are obtained. Crystal field transitions of Fe3+ ions are found to explain the multiple transitions observed in the absorption spectra, supporting the accuracy of the DFT + U approach.

First-Principles Calculations to Investigate the Effect of Van der Waals Interactions on the Crystal and Electronic Structures of Tin-Based 0D Hybrid Perovskites

Hela Ferjani et al.

Summary: The electronic structures of four tin-based 0D hybrid perovskites were investigated using the DFT method, and the effect of Van der Waals interaction on the electronic structure was explained. It was found that incorporating organic cations with the appropriate structure into hybrid perovskite crystals can enhance the efficiency of hybrid perovskite-based devices by preventing ion migration. The study of optical properties showed that Van der Waals interactions have a slight effect on the energy level but do not alter the shape of the absorption curves.

Summary: In this study, a series of full-Heusler compounds based on rare earth Ag2YB were investigated using the FP-LAPW method. The compounds were found to be stable in an AlCu2Mn-type structure, ductile, and anisotropic. Both structural and electronic properties were analyzed and compared with existing experimental and theoretical data. Additionally, the variation of heat capacity and coefficient of thermal expansion as a function of temperature was studied based on the quasi-harmonic Debye model.
