A geospatial platform for the tectonic interpretation of low-temperature thermochronology Big Data

Samuel C. Boone et al.

Summary: Low-temperature thermochronology is a powerful tool for understanding the thermal evolution of rocks and minerals over time. A new tool for geospatial archival, analysis, and dissemination of thermochronology data has been developed. By placing regional datasets in their geological, geochemical, and geographic contexts, insights into tectono-thermal evolutions can be gained.

Unexpectedly narrower track diameter at site of fission event

Weixing Li et al.

Summary: Fission events in minerals produce damage tracks that contain critical information about events occurring over different time scales. However, the exact location of fission occurrence along these tracks has never been identified. This study utilizes a novel technique to observe unexpectedly narrow fission tracks near the fission event site, contrary to the conventionally assumed largest diameter. These narrow tracks provide vital spatial information for understanding atomic-scale processes, such as track formation and annealing, with significant implications for fission track thermochronology.

Fission-track etching in apatite: A model and some implications

Raymond Jonckheere et al.

Summary: This study reconstructs the thermal history of fission tracks in apatite and explains the phenomena during etching. It proposes a method to calculate the true etch time using an etch-time window and suggests linking the etch-time windows of samples with different compositions to a compositional parameter.

A quantitative description of fission-track etching in apatite

Carolin Aslanian et al.

Summary: The study measured the apatite etch rate in different orientations, determining variations in track etching efficiencies and proposing a model to calculate track geometries. Single-track step-etch data also revealed a unique increase in confined track lengths with etch time, different from the track etch rate.
