Carbon-doped defect MoS2 co-catalytic Fe3+/peroxymonosulfate process for efficient sulfadiazine degradation: Accelerating Fe3+/Fe2+cycle and 1O2 dominated oxidation

Summary: To enhance the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle and singlet oxygen (1O2) generation in the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) Fenton-like system, a co-catalyst of defect MoS2 was prepared and a C2-MoS2/Fe3+/PMS system was constructed. The system showed nearly 100% removal efficiency of sulfadiazine (SDZ) antibiotics in 10 minutes and a reaction rate constant 4.6 times higher than the Fe3+/PMS system. The co-catalytic system exhibited great stability and efficient degradation of organic contaminants.

Novel flower-like Fe-Mo composite for peroxydisulfate activation toward efficient degradation of carbamazepine

Summary: In this study, a novel flower-like Fe-Mo composite material (FMO-FS-MS) was designed and synthesized, which could efficiently degrade carbamazepine (CBZ) by activating peroxydisulfate (PDS). The catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance, degrading 100% of CBZ within 30 minutes at pH=6. The activation of PDS by FMO-FS-MS generated reactive oxygen species and resulted in an effective redox cycle.

Summary: Heterogeneous Fenton-like reactions based on MoS2-MoC and MoS2-Mo2N catalytic cathodes achieved high pollutant degradation efficiency and clarified the mechanism of hydroxyl radicals and singlet oxygen generation. The composite catalysts with more sulfur vacancies exhibited 5 times higher activity compared to pure MoS2 cathode. The production of singlet oxygen was based on the transformation of superoxide radicals by Mo6+ and accounted for 66% of the total degradation. This work provides a sustainable strategy for pollutant utilization and has significant value for developing new environmental remediation technologies.

Highly efficient activation of peroxymonosulfate by biomass juncus derived carbon decorated with cobalt nanoparticles for the degradation of ofloxacin

Summary: The cobalt nanoparticles decorated biomass Juncus derived carbon (Co@JDC) was used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for efficient removal of ofloxacin (OFX) in water. The Co@JDC/PMS system showed excellent performance with 97% OFX degradation efficiency and 70.4% chemical oxygen demand removal rate achieved within 24 minutes. The system exhibited broad pH tolerance and was unaffected by Cl-, NO3-, and SO(4)2-. SO4-, ·OH, O2-, and O1(2-) were identified as the main active species in the PMS activation process.

Activated persulfate and peroxymonosulfate based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for antibiotics degradation-A review

Summary: Sulfate radical advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOP) have been successfully utilized for the degradation of antibiotics in water and wastewater treatment. This review discusses the mechanisms and applications of SR-AOPs in antibiotics degradation. The progress in this field, including the most promising developments and remaining challenges, is highlighted. The most susceptible and persistent oxidation groups of pharmaceuticals are summarized, and the highest effectiveness is reported for degradation of pharmaceuticals at ppb level. A scavenging effect is observed when the oxidant dose is 0.7 mM for the persulfate (PS) and 2 mM for the peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Future development requires simple persulfate activation systems for real matrix treatment.

MoS2 nanosheets vertically aligned on biochar as a robust peroxymonosulfate activator for removal of tetracycline

The enhanced catalytic degradation of sulfamethoxazole over Fe@nitrogen-doped carbon-supported nanocomposite: Insight into the mechanism

Mechanistic insights into the efficient activation of peracetic acid by pyrite for the tetracycline abatement

Summary: In this study, a novel advanced oxidation process called pyrite/PAA process was proposed for the efficient removal of tetracycline under neutral conditions. The pyrite/PAA process relies on the synergy of homogeneous and heterogenous Fe(II) species and generates CH3C(O)OO• radical as the main species for tetracycline degradation. The superior activation properties of pyrite can be attributed to the electron-donating ability of reducing sulfur species, which facilitate the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II). The study also analyzed the degradation pathways of tetracycline and the toxicity of the degradation intermediates.

Enhancement of ball-milling on pyrite/zero-valent iron for persulfate activation on imidacloprid removal in aqueous solution: A mechanistic study

Additionally, FeS2/Fe0 can activate PS effectively in a wide pH range from 3 to 9. The results suggest that modifying the Fe0 surface to produce FeS can enhance the catalytic efficiency and ultimately improve the removal efficiency of IMI.
