Water adsorption in ideal and defective UiO-66 structures

Gabriela Jajko et al.

Summary: In this study, we used a combination of experiments and simulations to investigate the adsorption of water in various UiO-66 frameworks. We proposed a new set of charges for the frameworks that accurately predicted the water-structure interaction at the molecular level. Our findings show that the number of defects in the frameworks significantly affects the water sorption properties. The results also suggest potential applications of these materials in water harvesting from air.

Future Paradigm of 3D Printed Ni-Based Metal Organic Framework Catalysts for Dry Methane Reforming: Techno-economic and Environmental Analyses

Jia Ling Ong et al.

Summary: Dry reforming of biogas is an attractive path for sustainable H2 production. This study explores the feasibility of using modified Ni-based catalysts in the economic and environmental aspects of dry reforming methane (DRM). The Ni-MOF catalyst shows promising economic performance and lower carbon emissions compared to other catalysts. 3D printing technology can be used for mass production of Ni-MOF catalysts. The price of H-2 has the greatest impact on the feasibility of DRM.

Solubility of CO2 in Aqueous Formic Acid Solutions and the Effect of NaCl Addition: A Molecular Simulation Study

Dominika O. Wasik et al.

Summary: The study found that the solubility of CO2 in aqueous solutions increases with increasing concentration of HCOOH until a certain point, after which the NaCl concentration has no significant effect on the solubility. This suggests a complex interplay between HCOOH concentration, NaCl concentration, and CO2 solubility in the system.

Design strategies for MOF-derived porous functional materials: Preserving surfaces and nurturing pores

Ximeng Liu et al.

Summary: MOFs are popular precursors and templates for deriving porous materials with large surface area, active sites, and porosity inherited from their parent MOFs. The structure and properties of MOF derivatives can be modulated by customized parent MOFs and tailored transformation processes, making them promising candidates for various applications. Recent advances have focused on enhancing the surface area, active sites, and porosity of MOF-derived materials, with effective design strategies demonstrated in applications such as electrochemical energy storage and conversion, water treatment, gas sensing, and biomedicine.

Carbon Dioxide Capture Enhanced by Pre-Adsorption of Water and Methanol in UiO-66

Gabriela Jajko et al.

Summary: The rapid increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide due to human activities poses a significant environmental challenge. Current technologies are not advanced enough to switch existing infrastructure to cleaner alternatives, thus making carbon dioxide capture techniques crucial. The UiO-66 material structure provides high stability and increased selectivity for carbon dioxide adsorption by pre-adsorption of water and methanol in the pores. Studies have shown that the adsorption sites in the material play a key role in the enhanced CO2 adsorption in the presence of water and methanol, as polar solvents.

New Features of the Open Source Monte Carlo Software Brick-CFCMC: Thermodynamic Integration and Hybrid Trial Moves

H. Mert Polat et al.

Summary: The paper introduces two new major features added to the Monte Carlo (MC) simulation code Brick-CFCMC for phase- and reaction equilibria calculations: thermodynamic integration for computing excess chemical potentials (mu(ex)) and hybrid MC/MD translation and rotation trial moves. These new features significantly increase the efficiency of sampling the configuration space.
