Floating Fe Catalyst Formation and Effects of Hydrogen Environment in the Growth of Carbon Nanotubes

Jincheng Lei et al.

Summary: Atomistic simulations demonstrate that hydrogen accelerates the decomposition of ferrocene and prevents catalyst encapsulation. The catalytic dehydrogenation of methane on liquid iron nanoparticles suggests that carbon dimers are the dominant on-surface species. These atomistic insights help us understand the catalyst formation and carbon nanotube nucleation in the early stages of the FCCVD growth process and optimize it for potential scale-up.

Role of Hydrogen in Ethylene-Based Synthesis of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Alisa R. Bogdanova et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of hydrogen on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes in the aerosol chemical vapor deposition process was investigated. It was shown that hydrogen inhibits the pyrolysis of ethylene, extending the synthesis parameter window. Three different regimes of hydrogen effect were distinguished: pyrolysis suppression at low concentrations, surface cleaning/activation promotion, and surface blockage/nanotube etching at high concentrations. This detailed study contributes to understanding the complex role of hydrogen and its impact on the synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes.

Joint effect of ethylene and toluene on carbon nanotube growth

Eldar M. Khabushev et al.

Summary: This study contributes to the understanding of single-walled carbon nanotube synthesis using ethylene and toluene as carbon sources via an aerosol CVD method. The role of ethylene in nanotube nucleation and growth, and the influence of toluene on growth rate and crystallinity are revealed. By adjusting the concentrations of ethylene and toluene, carbon nanotube-based transparent and conductive films with enhanced conductivity can be produced.

Residence time effect on single-walled carbon nanotube synthesis in an aerosol CVD reactor

Ilya V. Novikov et al.

Summary: The study focused on the impact of residence time on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes in aerosol CVD process, showing that the nucleation stage of nanotubes is controlled by diameter distribution rather than residence time. It was also observed a correlation between carbon nanotube length and residence time, and increasing residence time can effectively decrease the equivalent sheet resistance.

Summary: A new approach of simultaneous bilateral doping of SWCNT outer and inner surfaces was proposed in this study, achieving a record equivalent sheet resistance at high transmittance in the visible spectrum. The strong p-doping effect by doping with chloroauric acid ethanol solution improved the conductivity of the material, showing a significant decrease in Fermi level through bilaterally doping.
