In Situ Grown Heterostructure Based on MOF- Derived Carbon Containing n-Type Zn-In-S and Dry-Oxidative p-Type CuO as Pseudocapacitive Electrode Materials

Iftikhar Hussain et al.

Summary: The rational design of highly oriented and integrated heterostructures based on metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon containing n-type metal chalcogenides (Zn-In-S/C) polyhedron and p-type metal oxide (CuO) nanowires was proposed. The p-type CuO nanowires were used as a stable scaffold to grow MOF-derived n-type Zn-In-S/C. The controlled and in situ fabricated Zn-In-S/C@CuO heterostructures provided a p-n heterojunction which enhanced the charge transfer, hence providing an improved overall electrochemical performance over its MOF and bare CuO counterpart. Coupled with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the enhancement in the conductivity of the heterostructure was further verified. The symmetric supercapacitor device delivered an energy density of 7 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 4 kW kg-1. Overall, the theoretical and experimental investigation of the oriented in situ grown Zn-In-S/C@CuO heterojunction with better cycling stability and electrochemical activity could be a useful asset for energy storage devices.

Molecular tailoring of MnO2 by bismuth doping to achieve aqueous zinc-ion battery with capacitor-level durability

Yu Ma et al.

Summary: This study proposes a bismuth (Bi) doping technology to improve the structural stability and reaction kinetics of MnO2 as cathode materials in aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). The results show that Bi doping enhances the stability of the tunnel structure, electrical conductivity, and weakens the chemical bond strength between Zn2+ and O. The Bi-doped alpha-MnO2 (BMO-6) cathode exhibits excellent cycle life, rate performance, energy density, and mechanical stability, surpassing other reported Mn-based cathodes in aqueous ZIBs.

Asymmetrically Doping a Platinum Atom into a Au38 Nanocluster for Changing the Electron Configuration and Reactivity in Electrocatalysis

Xu Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, Pt atoms were successfully doped into Au nanoclusters, and it was found that asymmetrical doping of one Pt atom increased energy and led to the loss of one valence electron, while symmetrical doping of two Pt atoms narrowed the energy gap and reduced two valence electrons. The different combinations of these doped nanoclusters exhibited varying CO2 electroreduction activity.

Binder-free trimetallic phosphate nanosheets as an electrode: Theoretical and experimental investigation

Iftikhar Hussain et al.

Summary: Transition metal phosphides and phosphates are emerging as promising electrode materials for energy storage devices. A new trimetallic Zn-Co-Ga phosphate electrode material shows significantly higher specific capacity than mono- or bimetallic phosphates, along with superior conductivity and coulombic efficiency. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the enhanced metallic conductivity of ZCGP is due to modified exchange splitting from the 3d-orbitals of Co atoms in the presence of Zn and Ga. An engineered hybrid supercapacitor device using ZCGP//rGO demonstrates high energy and power densities, making it a potential candidate for energy storage applications.

Alkynyl-Stabilized Superatomic Silver Clusters Showing Circularly Polarized Luminescence

Miao-Miao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new enantiomeric pair of superatomic silver clusters, R/S-Ag-17, prepared from chiral alkynyl ligands, which exhibit near-infrared emission and circularly polarized luminescence. Experimental and theoretical evidence suggest that the CPL originates from transitions between superatomic 1P(z) and 1S orbitals. This work paves the way for the development of CPL-active metal nanoclusters utilizing chiral ligands and demonstrates the transfer of chirality from protecting ligands to superatomic states in metal clusters.
