Carbon-Dots-Modified Hierarchical ZnIn2S4/Ni-Al LDH Heterojunction with Boosted Charge Transfer for Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic H2 Evolution

A Twin S-Scheme Artificial Photosynthetic System with Self-Assembled Heterojunctions Yields Superior Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Rate

Summary: Designing S-Scheme heterojunctions can effectively improve the photocatalytic performance for hydrogen evolution by avoiding futile charge transport routes. In this study, a twin S-Scheme heterojunction consisting of graphitic C3N4 nanosheets, hydrogen-doped rutile TiO2 nanorods, and anatase TiO2 nanoparticles was proposed. The catalyst exhibited a high hydrogen evolution rate of 62.37 mmol g(-1) h(-1) and an apparent quantum efficiency of 45.9% at 365 nm. The significant enhancement of photocatalytic performance was attributed to the efficient charge separation and transfer facilitated by the unique twin S-Scheme structure. In situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron spin resonance (ESR) spin-trapping tests, and other characterizations confirmed the charge transfer route in the twin S-Scheme.

Mo-activated VC as effective cocatalyst for an enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity of CdS

Construction of Z-scheme heterojunction CoS/CdS@g-C3N4 hollow sphere with spatical charge separation for enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production

Summary: By coating 0D CdS QDs and 0D CoS nanoparticles on hollow spherical carbon nitride (HCNS), a distinct double-shell structure is formed, which spatially separates the photoinduced charge to improve electron transfer and reaction kinetics. The CoS/CdS@HCNS exhibits the highest H2 generation activity under visible light irradiation (2866 mu mol.g- 1.h- 1), which is 20.2 and 7.9 times higher than that of HCNS (142 mu mol.g- 1.h- 1) and CdS (363 mu mol.g- 1.h- 1), respectively. Additionally, the 5%-CoS/ CdS@HCNS composite shows high stability after 4 cycles of test, providing a new strategy for exploring and manufacturing 0D/3D photocatalysts for energy and environmental applications.

The good electrical conductivity of ZnCo2O4 facilitates charge transfer, while CoS serves as the active site for the thermodynamically favorable hydrogen production reaction. The composite of p-type ZnCo2O4 and n-type CoS shows a strong surface interaction, with a more negative surface potential that favors H+ adsorption. In situ XPS analysis provides strong evidence for the charge transfer mechanism of the S-Scheme heterojunction.

In this study, p-type cobalt phosphide nanomaterials were successfully synthesized and combined with commercial TiO2 to fabricate a noble-metal-free photocatalyst. By tuning the phosphating time, an optimal condition was determined, leading to significantly improved photocatalytic performance.

Summary: A novel amorphous monodisperse Co3O4 quantum dots/3D hexagonal CdS single crystals p-n heterojunction was constructed, exhibiting outstanding hydrogen evolution activity. The enhanced photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the synergistic effect of the p-n heterostructure and the quantum confinement effect of Co3O4 QDs, which significantly promoted the separation efficiency of photo-generated electrons and holes. This work provides insight into the design of highly efficient photocatalysis using 0D/3D Co3O4 QDs/CdS p-n heterostructures.
