Synthesis of nitrogen-enriched hydrochar via co-hydrothermal reaction of liquid digestate and corn stalk

Effects of various materials used to promote the direct interspecies electron transfer on anaerobic digestion of low-concentration swine manure

Summary: The activation of direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) by the supplementation of conductive materials enhances anaerobic digestion (AD). This study focused on the performance of AD, microbial community, and characteristics of biofilms on different materials used to promote DIET during the AD of low-concentration swine manure. The results showed that stainless steel mesh and polyester felt had the best AD characteristics. Microbial analysis revealed specific bacteria groups in the biofilms, capable of carrying out DIET. Polyester felt exhibited better biofouling and higher nucleic acid, extracellular polymeric substances, and total biomass content in the biofilms compared to carbon felt.
