Carboxyl group-assisted uniform growth of MnOx nanospheres on poly(acrylonitrile) fiber for enhanced removal of organic pollutants

Summary: Development of functional fibers with efficient adsorption and catalytic properties is crucial for environmental remediation. In this study, carboxyl groups were grafted onto a commercial poly(acrylonitrile) fiber and used for in situ growth of manganese oxides nanospheres. The resulting fiber showed excellent removal of different organic pollutants through adsorption and catalytic degradation processes.

Secondary Amine Pendant β-Peptide Polymers Displaying Potent Antibacterial Activity and Promising Therapeutic Potential in Treating MRSA-Induced Wound Infections and Keratitis

Summary: Recent interest in developing antibacterial polymers as synthetic mimics of host defense peptides (HDPs) has focused on incorporating positively charged moieties to improve antibacterial activity and reduce eukaryotic toxicity. This study found that a secondary ammonium is superior to primary or tertiary ammoniums in antibacterial beta-peptide polymers, showing potent antibacterial activity and high selectivity. The optimal polymer displayed strong activity against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and showed high therapeutic efficacy with low toxicity.

Spatiotemporal imaging of charge transfer in photocatalyst particles

In this study, researchers performed spatiotemporally resolved surface photovoltage measurements on cuprous oxide photocatalyst particles and found that photogenerated electrons are transferred to the catalytic surface quickly through inter-facet hot electron transfer, while photogenerated holes are transferred to a spatially separated surface and stabilized through selective trapping. These findings contribute to the efficient charge separation in photocatalysis and have implications for the rational design of photocatalysts.
