Modelling of the catalytic initiation of methane coupling under non-oxidative conditions

R. S. Postma et al.

Summary: The interplay between catalytic activation of methane on Fe (c) SiO2 and gas-phase free radical methane coupling under non-oxidative conditions is analyzed by mechanistic modeling and experiments. The model validates the significant contribution of gas-phase reactions responsible for methane conversion and the low-activity induction period in gas-phase methane pyrolysis can be overcome by catalytic activation. Gas-phase reactions determines the selectivity distribution while catalytic reaction only influences the activity of the system.

Evaluation of reduced combustion kinetic mechanisms using global sensitivity-based similarity analysis (GSSA)

Shengqiang Lin et al.

Summary: Reduced combustion kinetic mechanisms are often used in CFD simulations for cost savings. A new similarity analysis method based on global sensitivity was proposed to compare reduced and detailed mechanisms. Some reduced mechanisms failed to accurately replicate actual reaction kinetic features, while others showed better performance in predicting ignition delay times.

Selective electrochemical oxidative coupling of methane mediated by Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.5O6-δ and its chemical stability

Kannan P. Ramaiyan et al.

Summary: Efficient conversion of methane to value-added products has long been pursued, especially with the recent discoveries of shale gas reserves increasing the demand. A study found that SFMO-075Fe in an electrochemical OCM setup can activate methane effectively, but it exhibits poor chemical stability in carbon-rich environments.

Ethylene production by direct conversion of methane over isolated single active centers

Hilal Ezgi Toraman et al.

Summary: Through multiscale simulations and density functional theory calculations, it is found that in the non-oxidative conversion of methane over iron atoms on silica, ethylene is predominantly produced on the catalyst and consumed by gas-phase reactions. The highest ethylene selectivity and methane conversion rate can be achieved by eliminating gas-phase reactions.

Reaction condition optimization for non-oxidative conversion of methane using artificial intelligence

Hyun Woo Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, artificial intelligence was used to optimize the non-oxidative conversion of methane to C-2 compounds, with machine learning predicting experimental results and metaheuristics optimizing reaction conditions. The method successfully improved C-2 yield and suppressed coke formation by enhancing the multi-objective function for optimization.
