Mechanical stress and morphology evolution in RuO2 thin film electrodes during lithiation and delithiation

Lin Xu et al.

Summary: RuO2 is a promising electrode material for thin film lithium-ion batteries, due to its excellent properties such as large volumetric charge capacity, high rate capability, and excellent cyclability. In this study, the evolution of mechanical stress during lithiation and delithiation of RuO2 was investigated and compared with Si and Ge thin film electrodes. The results show that the behavior of the mechanical stress in RuO2 is fundamentally different, mainly due to the reversibility of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation on RuO2. The small tensile stress during delithiation of RuO2 allows for better accommodation of the stress induced by volume changes, which may contribute to its better cyclability compared to Si and Ge films.

Zwitterionic Covalent Organic Frameworks: Attractive Porous Host for Gas Separation and Anhydrous Proton Conduction

Yu Fu et al.

Summary: Ionic covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with zwitterionic groups exhibit high SO2 adsorption capacity and impressive SO2/CO2 selectivity due to the separated cationic and anionic groups in their channels. The zwitterionic groups in COFs' channels can induce complete proton carrier deprotonation, leading to outstanding anhydrous proton conductivity. This work opens up possibilities for designing well-defined zwitterionic frameworks for gas separation and ion conduction.

Interfacial Chemistry Enables Stable Cycling of All-Solid-State Li Metal Batteries at High Current Densities

Biyi Xu et al.

Summary: The addition of Mg(ClO4)(2) into PEO-based composite electrolyte effectively regulates Li+ ion transport and enhances the Li+ ion mobility, leading to the formation of a conductive Li2MgCl4/LiF interfacial layer that homogenizes Li+ flux and increases the critical current density to a record 2 mA cm(-2). These findings highlight the importance of surface chemistry and interfacial engineering in designing high-current-density all-solid-state Li metal batteries.
