Design of shear thickening fluid/polyurethane foam skeleton sandwich composite based on non-Newtonian fluid solid interaction under low-velocity impact

Feng Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the non-Newtonian fluid-solid interaction between shear thickening fluid (STF) and polyurethane (PU) skeleton through experiments and numerical simulations. Optimization of material selection is proposed to enhance impact resistance performance. The synchronous gradient thickening and flow of STF facilitate load-bearing and stress diffusion, while a lower modulus of the PU foam skeleton improves the fluid-solid interaction and energy exchange, resulting in improved impact resistance performance.
