Defect-Engineered Cu-Based Nanomaterials for Efficient CO2 Reduction over Ultrawide Potential Window

Qilong Wu et al.

Summary: High conversion efficiency and wide operating potential window are essential for CO2 reduction electrocatalysis. This study introduces point defects (Sn doping) and planar defects (grain boundary) into the Cu substrate to fabricate highly diluted SnCu polycrystals. The material exhibits high Faradaic efficiencies (>95%) towards CO2 electroreduction over an ultrawide potential window. The introduction of Sn doping and grain boundary provides an optimized electronic effect, helping suppress H2 evolution and promote the hydrogenation of *CO2.

Shape-Dependent Performance of Cu/Cu2O for Photocatalytic Reduction of CO2

Yuke Zheng et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into solar fuels or chemicals is a sustainable solution to address global warming and the energy crisis. This study investigates the effects of morphological control on a Cu/Cu2O-based photocatalyst for CO2 reduction. The results show that the spherical Cu/Cu2O photocatalyst has higher activity compared to the octahedral one, which can be attributed to the multifaceted structure favoring charge separation and the presence of unfavorable (111) facets in the octahedral Cu/Cu2O.
