Optimizing the Flocculation Effect of Cationic Polyacrylamide Prepared with UV-Initiated Polymerization by Response Surface Methodology

Chaochen Fu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal flocculation conditions for a novel cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM). The results showed that higher intrinsic viscosity and cationic degree of CPAM led to better flocculation effect. Quantitative tests were performed to determine the optimal range of influencing factors and a flocculation model was obtained.

Coagulation-ultrafiltration efficiency of polymeric Al-, Fe-, and Ti-coagulant with or without polyacrylamide composition

Min Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that PAC exhibited the best filtration flux under neutral and alkaline conditions, while pre-coagulation with TXC was slightly superior to PAC and PFS under acidic conditions. Overdosed coagulants also facilitated subsequent membrane filtration under acidic conditions, although pollutants may re-stabilize in solution.

Liquid fraction of digestate pretreated with membrane filtration for cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris

Magdalena Zielinska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to use membrane filtration of digestate to produce permeate for the cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris. Microfiltration resulted in the highest biomass yield due to optimum pH and nutrient concentration. Ultrafiltration reduced microalgae growth due to increased ammonia concentration. The initial ammonium concentration was found to significantly affect microalgae growth.

Direct Purification of Digestate Using Ultrafiltration Membranes: Influence of Pore Size on Filtration Behavior and Fouling Characteristics

Caide Yue et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing temperature and cross-flow velocity can improve UF separation efficiency, while the flux increase slows down after a certain transmembrane pressure. PES membranes with different pore sizes showed varying rates of flux increase under pressure changes, and using NaOH and NaClO for cleaning resulted in higher flux recovery rates.

Digestate mechanical separation in industrial conditions: Efficiency profiles and fertilising potential

Aleksandra Chuda et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of decanter centrifuge operating parameters on the effectiveness of digestate mechanical separation and the impact of adding flocculants on liquid-solid fraction composition. Addition of flocculants significantly increased the removal efficiency of dry matter and organic matter in the digestate, resulting in better separation results under optimal conditions.

The Potential of Digestate and the Liquid Fraction of Digestate as Chemical Fertiliser Substitutes under the RENURE Criteria

Gregory Reuland et al.

Summary: Digestate and the liquid fraction (LF) can be candidate RENURE fertilisers in nitrate vulnerable zones, with compliance rates for Cu and Zn meeting the criteria. LF is better suited as RENURE candidate fertilisers compared to unseparated digestate.
