Power spectrum analysis of time-delayed optoelectronic oscillators with wide and narrow band nonlinear filters

Rene Mboyo Kouayep et al.

Summary: In this paper, the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and fast Fourier transform-based spectral analysis are used to study the power spectrum of various oscillation phenomena in the cubic-nonlinear optoelectronic oscillator (CN-OEO). The presence of the cubic-nonlinear term (CNT) in the CN-OEO leads to the generation of frequency combs with a free spectral range equal to the inverse of the time-delay. Additionally, the system becomes more selective in terms of oscillation frequencies as the CNT increases. Furthermore, when the cut-off frequencies are close, harmonic and sub-harmonic frequencies are observed.

Effects of bias current and control of multistability in 3D hopfield neural network

Bertrand Frederick Boui A. Boya et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the dynamics of a 3D Hopfield neural network and investigates the influence of bias terms. The models display odd symmetry and exhibit typical behaviors such as period doubling, spontaneous symmetry breaking, merging crisis, bursting oscillation, and coexisting attractors and period-doubling reversals. The study also explores multistability control using linear augmentation feedback strategy and demonstrates that the neural system can be adjusted to experience only a single attractor behavior by gradually monitoring the coupling coefficient. The experimental results using a microcontroller-based realization of the neural system are consistent with the theoretical analysis.

Biophysical neurons, energy, and synapse controllability: a review

Jun Ma

Summary: Diffusion of ions inside and outside cells leads to a gradient electromagnetic field that regulates membrane potential. External stimuli inject energy to disrupt the energy balance between the magnetic and electric fields in a cell. Activation of biophysical functions and self-adaptation of biological neurons depend on energy flow, and synapse connection is controlled to achieve energy balance. When more neurons are clustered together, field energy is exchanged and shape formation occurs to achieve local energy balance, preventing bursting synchronization and seizure. This review presents various biophysical neuron models and explains their physical aspects, clarifying the controllability of functional synapses, formation of heterogeneity, and defects to understand synchronization stability and cooperation between functional regions. These models and findings provide new insights into nonlinear physics and computational neuroscience.

Multistability in Coupled Nonlinear Metasurfaces

Constantinos Valagiannopoulos

Summary: Multistability is a key effect in memory components of various electronic, chemical, biological, and quantum systems, enabling different outputs based on past input values. We discovered that two electromagnetic metasurfaces with nonlinear Kerr-type admittances exhibit significant multistability in transmissivity. This feature arises from the discontinuous response caused by the change in material nature from dielectric to plasmonic and vice versa at different levels of input power.

Two-dimensional space-time terahertz memory in bulk SrTiO3

F. Blanchard et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the ability of the surfaces of SrTiO3 crystals at room temperature to act as ultrafast sensors, enabling sub-picosecond switching through the Kerr effect and recording polar THz intensity with spatial resolution below the diffraction limit through THz-field-induced dipole alignment followed by multi-picosecond relaxation time recovery. The contrast sensitivity and spatial resolution achieved by the STO sensor are significantly superior to those of present-day near-field THz sensors based on the linear Pockels effect, providing a new strategy for building an ultrafast space-time THz memory.
