Multiferroic properties in Sm1-xErxFeO3 ceramics

Raheleh Tabrizi Dehno et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of Er3+ substitution on the physical properties of SmFeO3 through magnetic and electrical measurements. It was found that the lattice constants of Sm1-xErxFeO3 samples decrease with increasing Er content, leading to a significant distortion in Er-doped SmFeO3. The magnetic hysteresis loops showed an increase in antiferromagnetic trend with Er concentration, along with evidence of spin reorientation transition and enhancement in dielectric constant. Sm0.3Er0.7FeO3 exhibited a colossal dielectric constant attributed to relaxor-ferroelectrics, and the coexistence of magnetism and ferroelectricity was observed through the appearance of magnetic and ferroelectric hysteresis loops.

Cadmium Substitution Effect on Microstructure and Magnetic Properties of Mg-Cu-Zn Ferrites

Morteza Beyranvand et al.

Summary: The microstructure, optical, and magnetic properties of Cd x Mg0.3-x Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2O4 ferrites prepared by the citrate auto-combustion method were investigated. The results showed that the samples exhibited a single-phase cubic structure, but the saturation magnetization decreased and the bandgap energy showed an increasing-decreasing trend with the increase of Cd substitution content. The improvement in dielectric properties was attributed to the easier transfer and electron exchange between Fe(3+) and M2+ ions.

The effect of the annealing temperature on the microstructural, magnetic, and spin-dynamical properties of Mn-Mg-Cu-Zn ferrites

Rozita Sefatgol et al.

Summary: The annealing temperature significantly affects the structural and magnetic properties of Mn0.15Mg0.15Cu0.2Zn0.5-Fe2O4 ferrite nanoparticles. The structural results showed a combination of cubic spinel and hematite phases at temperatures above 750 degrees C. XPS analysis revealed the importance of the valence state of surface-metal ions and surface-oxygen species in these changes.

Recent progress in bismuth ferrite-based thin films as a promising photovoltaic material

Mohammad Moein Seyfouri et al.

Summary: The application of ferroelectric oxides in photovoltaic devices, particularly bismuth ferrite thin films, has been revitalized. These materials exhibit above-bandgap photovoltage and switchable photocurrent, and can display new functionalities when coupled with ferroic orders. Research has focused on enhancing photovoltaic performance, emphasizing design principles for tailoring the photovoltaic effect through interface effects of electrodes and oxygen vacancies, as well as bandgap engineering. Future perspectives include integrating bismuth ferrite-based perovskites with other solar absorbers for highly efficient photovoltaic devices.

Reinspection of formation of BiFe1-xMnxO3 solid solutions via low temperature sol-gel synthesis route

Ramunas Diliautas et al.

Summary: In this study, BiFe1-xMnxO3 solid solutions were prepared by low temperature sol-gel processing, and it was found that the structural, magnetic and morphological properties of the samples are dependent on the chemical composition, with monophasic samples formed up to 25 mol% of substitution. The study also investigated the thermal behavior of the precursor gels, as well as the magnetic properties of the solid solutions, observing antiferromagnetism and weak ferromagnetism in the samples.

Prominent ferroelectric properties in Mn-doped BiFeO3 spin-coated thin films

Xia-Li Liang et al.

Summary: BFMO thin films were successfully deposited on FTO/glass substrates via sol-gel technique, with Mn doping showing significant enhancement in properties compared to pure BFO samples. The Mn doping-induced changes in structure, grain size reduction, and oxygen vacancies were identified as underlying mechanisms for the improved performance of BFMO films, making them promising for ferroelectric photovoltaic device applications.

Hydrothermal synthesis of Ce/Zr co-substituted BiFeO3: R3c-to-P4mm phase transition and enhanced room temperature ferromagnetism

Zahra Adineh et al.

Summary: A facile hydrothermal method was used to fabricate phase-pure multiferroic ferrites Bi1-xCexFe1-xZrxO3 (x = 0.00, 0.03, 0.06), and the dependence of structural, optical, and magnetic properties on the composition was investigated. Raman spectra showed a structural transition from rhombohedral to pseudo-tetragonal phase as the content of Ce/Zr increases, and an increase in optical bandgap with Ce/Zr co-substitution was observed. Magnetic properties indicated a transition from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic phase due to the presence of the rhombohedral to tetragonal phase transition and exchange interaction between Ce3+/Ce4+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ orbitals.
