Tuning the Photocatalytic Performance of Ni-Zn Ferrite Catalyst Using Nd Doping for Solar Light-Driven Catalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue

Pooja Dhiman et al.

Summary: In this paper, a moderate band gap Nd-substituted Ni-Zn ferrite is synthesized as a nano photo catalyst. The Nd substitution significantly affects the crystallite size, shape, band gap, and magnetic characteristics of the ferrite. The Nd-doped catalyst shows enhanced degradation efficiency of methylene blue dye under solar light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity is attributed to the presence of oxygen vacancies and the mixed valence state of Ni, Fe, and Nd.

Sol-gel auto-combustion developed Nd and Dy co-doped Mg nanoferrites for photocatalytic water treatment, electrocatalytic water splitting and biological applications

Gaurav Katoch et al.

Summary: Sol-gel auto-combustion synthesis was used to develop MgNd0.5xDy0.5xFe2-xO4 (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03) nanoferrites and analyze their structural, optical, morphological, photocatalytic, magnetic, electro-catalytic, and antibacterial properties. The synthesized nanoferrites exhibited spinel phase without impurity phases. The energy band gap decreased from 1.73 to 1.49 eV with increased Nd and Dy content. The nanoferrites showed excellent saturation magnetization (Ms) and coercivity (Hc) in the range of 27.47-32.30 emu/g and 51.79-80.28 Oe, respectively. They also displayed good electrocatalytic activity for HER and OER, as well as high photocatalytic efficiency under specific conditions. The MgNd0.015Dy0.015Fe1.97O4 (x = 0.03) nanoferrite sample showed higher photocatalytic activity due to increased active sites and smaller band gap. In addition, the developed Mg nano ferrites were effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, these nanoferrites are suitable for hydrogen evolution, wastewater treatment, and biological applications.

Dependence of specific absorption rate on concentration of Fe3O4 nanoparticles: from the prediction of Monte Carlo simulations to experimental results

Le Tri Dat et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Fe3O4 nanoparticle concentration on magnetic anisotropy using Monte Carlo simulations. The results showed that the magnetic anisotropy increased with nanoparticle concentration, which explained the dual behavior of SAR value with concentration. Experimental results and theoretical simulations agreed well, demonstrating the important role of magnetic anisotropy in enhancing SAR values.

Effect of Gd-Doping on Structural, Optical, and Magnetic Properties of NiFe2O4 As-prepared Thin Films via Facile Sol-Gel Approach

Huixue Yao et al.

Summary: In this study, gadolinium-doped nickel ferrite thin films were synthesized using a sol-gel method, and the effects of Gd doping on the structural, optical, and magnetic properties were investigated. The results showed that with increasing Gd concentration, the lattice parameter increased, crystalline size decreased, optical band gap value increased, and better magnetic properties were observed at an appropriate Gd-doping concentration. Additionally, saturation magnetization was found to increase significantly and then sharply decrease with increasing Gd content, attributed to Gd-doping, exchange interaction, and redistribution of cations.
