Synthesis of CA6/AlON composite with enhanced slag resistance

Yunsong Liu et al.

Summary: Different amounts of AlON were introduced into CA(6) using one-step and two-step methods to improve the slag resistance. In the one-step method, AlON clusters were formed due to the poor wettability of Al by Al2O3, resulting in high porosity of CA(6)/AlON composite. In the two-step method, CA(6) and AlON were prepared separately and uniformly distributed in the composite. The optimized amount of AlON added was 10wt%. The CA(6)/AlON composite prepared by the two-step method exhibited superior slag corrosion protection.

Interaction between CA6-MA crucible and molten wrought Ni-based superalloys

Yunsong Liu et al.

Summary: The interfacial behavior between CaAl12O19-MgAl2O4 spinel (CA6-MA) crucible and molten wrought Ni-based superalloys during the vacuum induction melting process has been investigated. CA6-MA crucible exhibits higher thermodynamic stability and poor wettability to the superalloy melt. The superalloy ingots obtained in the CA6-MA crucible have cleaner surfaces, more metallic luster, and lower total oxygen content compared to those obtained in Al2O3 crucible.

Role of ZrO2 in sintering and mechanical properties of CaO containing magnesia from cryptocrystalline magnesite

Zhao Hu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reinforcing effects of microscale monoclinic ZrO2 on free CaO containing magnesia. The addition of ZrO2 improves the mechanical properties, thermal shock resistance, and hydration resistance of magnesia. ZrO2 reduces open pores, strengthens grain bonding, and increases flexural strength and fracture toughness.

Preparation and application of MgO/nano MgAl2O4 core-shell aggregates with improved hydration and thermal shock resistance

Qiang Gu et al.

Summary: MgO/nano MgAl2O4 core-shell aggregates with excellent hydration resistance and thermal shock resistance were prepared. The in-situ formed MgAl2O4 reduces the contacting area between MgO and water, and also reduces the pore size, resulting in improved resistance. The pinning effect of nano-MgAl2O4 and thermal mismatch between MgO and MgAl2O4 contribute to enhancing thermal shock resistance.

Designing low-carbon MgO-Al2O3-La2O3-C refractories with balanced performance for ladle furnaces

Xinming Ren et al.

Summary: In order to achieve high-quality and stable production of special steel, the performance of low-carbon MgO-C refractories needs to be further optimized. Low-carbon MgO-Al2O3-La2O3-C refractories with enhanced thermal shock resistance and slag resistance were successfully prepared by introducing Al2O3 as a reinforcer and La2O3 as a modifier.

Improving hydration resistance of MgO-CaO ceramics by in situ synthesized CaZrO3 coatings prepared using a non-hydrolytic sol

Tingting Xu et al.

Summary: By depositing CaZrO3 coatings on MgO-CaO ceramics, their hydration resistance was significantly improved. After calcination, most of the CaO transformed into CaZrO3 and was located at the grain boundaries, leading to enhanced performance of the ceramics.

Sintering behavior and thermal shock resistance of aluminum titanate (Al2TiO5)-toughened MgO-based ceramics

Jialiang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that sintering at 1450°C and 1550°C for 3 hours resulted in MgO-based ceramics with enhanced thermal shock resistance when using 10wt% Al2TiO5, showing optimal relative density and bending strength. Additionally, samples with 15wt% Al2TiO5 added and sintered at 1550°C with a dwell time of 3 hours exhibited the highest residual bending strength and lowest thermal expansion coefficient. The improvement in thermal shock resistance was attributed to the reduction in thermal expansion coefficient.
