Fabrication and characterization of highly thermal conductive Si3N4/diamond composite materials

Dandan Wu et al.

Summary: A novel composite material using Si3N4 as the substrate and diamond particles as reinforcement was developed to enhance thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. The Ti coating on diamond particles promoted the formation of a strong bond at the diamond-Si3N4 interface, preventing graphitization. A sandwiched structure with alternating Si3N4 and Si3N4/Ti-coated diamond layers was designed to enable directional heat conduction. The fabricated Si3N4/diamond composites showed a significant increase in thermal conductivity, making them suitable for high-performance electronic devices.

Reach on the preparation process of diamond/SiC composites with bimodal diamond particle

Zijian Zhang et al.

Summary: Through a novel preparation process, diamond particles of 50 μm are successfully filled into gaps between closely arranged diamond particles of 400 μm, resulting in diamond/SiC composites with high diamond content and uniform structure. The diamond volume fraction and thermal conductivity of the composite are 79.18% and 722.55 W/mK, respectively, which are the maximum values achieved by pressureless infiltration. This innovative method offers a new solution for uniform mixing of particles of different sizes in composites.

Research on maximizing the diamond content of diamond/SiC composite

Xinbo He et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method of combining hot mold pressing and liquid silicon infiltration to prepare diamond/SiC composites with high diamond content and relative density. The experimental results show that the content of diamond in the composites increases with the increase of the diamond particle size. This work provides a novel and efficient preparation method for further improving the thermal conductivity of diamond/SiC composites.

Thermal and mechanical properties of diamond/SiC substrate reinforced by bimodal diamond particles

Pengfei Liu et al.

Summary: The effects of mixing mode of diamond particles on the properties of diamond reinforced silicon carbide composites were investigated. It was found that adding a small amount of fine diamond particles can enhance the thermal conductivity of the composites, while excessive addition decreases the thermal conductivity. The maximum thermal conductivity of the composite reached 469 W/(m K) under the optimal mixing ratio.

Unveiling the interface characteristics and their in fluence on the heat transfer behavior of hot-forged Cu-Cr/Diamond composites

S. Q. Jia et al.

Summary: Cu-Cr/55 vol% diamond composites with different weight percentages of Cr additives were fabricated by hot forging, showing varied interface structures and thermal conductivities. The Cu-3Cr/55Dia composite exhibited the highest measured thermal conductivity, with a double-layered interface structure between the copper matrix and diamond particles. The modified models successfully predicted the thermal conductivity values, contributing to understanding heat transfer behavior in Cu-Cr/diamond composites.

Thermal transport characteristics in diamond/SiC composites via molten Si infiltration

Yuying Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the thermal conductivity of diamond/SiC composites and its correlation with diamond volume percentage, as well as evaluated the annealing effect and thermal stability of the composites. The results showed a strong relationship between thermal conductivity and diamond content, with a level-off observed at high diamond content indicating increased thermal resistance. Additionally, the study demonstrated the potential of Si liquid infiltration method in fabricating fully dense composites with desired phase structures and exceptional properties.
