Design and development of type-1 FBG based high temperature sensor

R. Y. M. Khan et al.

Summary: Thermal metrology is crucial for optimizing high-energy industrial processes, and this study presents the design and development of a double thimble type standard type-1 fiber Bragg grating (FBG) high temperature sensing probe. Two probes, named probe-1 and probe-2, were developed by encapsulating type-1 FBGs in stainless steel thimbles with ceramic filling. The probes were tested in a high temperature box furnace and their responses were analyzed. The optimized probe-2 demonstrated a lifetime of approximately 6 years with negligible hysteresis and repeatability.

Polyvinyl alcohol/polyethylene glycol composite hydrogel parceling on aluminum: Toward more robust micro-arc oxidation coatings

Endong Jia et al.

Summary: Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technology is utilized to enhance the wear and corrosion resistance of aluminum (Al) by forming a dense ceramic oxide coating on its surface. In this study, a hydrogel containing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as a pre-treatment to improve the properties of the MAO coating (Al-MAO-GEL) on Al disk. The coated Al-MAO-GEL showed improved tribological properties and corrosion resistance, indicating its protective nature.

Microstructure and tribological behavior of plasma spray Ni60 alloy coating deposited on ZL109 aluminum alloy substrate

Bing -yuan Han et al.

Summary: This paper investigated the microstructure and tribological behavior of Ni60 alloy coating prepared by plasma spray on the surface of aluminum alloy. The results showed that the coating thickness and spraying power had an impact on the coating performance, with multiple phases and materials present in the coating. The coating had enhanced hardness and oxidation resistance, but also had a higher porosity. Under high load, the coating exhibited increased wear and friction coefficient. Moderate spraying power improved the coating's wear resistance.

Micro-arc oxidation enhances the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of oil-water separating mesh

Bowen Xue et al.

Summary: Ceramic coatings were prepared on the surface of Al mesh using the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) method, which showed excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The coating had a protective effect on salt spray corrosion and mass loss at high temperature, and improved the wear resistance of the aluminum mesh. After oil heating treatment, the MAO Al mesh maintained oleophilic and hydrophobic properties, making it suitable for oil-water separation. This method has a simple preparation process, low cost, and excellent performance, with wide applications in oil spill cleanup, wastewater treatment, and water purification.
