Antiproliferative and apoptotic effects of conditioned medium released from human amniotic epithelial stem cells on breast and cervical cancer cells

Ameneh Jafari et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the anticancer effects of human amniotic epithelial stem cells-conditioned media (hAECs-CM) on cervical cancer and breast cancer cell lines. The results showed that hAECs-CM exhibited cytotoxic effects on these cancer cells, inhibiting their proliferation and migration, as well as inducing apoptosis.

Placental Tissues as Biomaterials in Regenerative Medicine

Annelise Roy et al.

Summary: Placental tissues, including the placenta, placental membrane, umbilical cord, and amniotic fluid, have been studied for their potential contribution to tissue repair applications. The extracellular matrix scaffolds and cytokines within these tissues play a role in stimulating re-epithelialization, promoting angiogenesis, and reducing inflammation and scarring. This review explores the development and compositions of placental tissues, as well as recent innovations in their use as biomaterials in regenerative medicine.

Anti-cancer effects of human placenta-derived amniotic epithelial stem cells loaded with paclitaxel on cancer cells

Amirhesam Babajani et al.

Summary: The study investigates the appropriate condition of priming human amniotic epithelial cells (hAECs) with paclitaxel for cancer treatment. The results suggest that paclitaxel-loaded hAECs have anti-neoplastic effects and induce apoptosis in breast and cervical cancer cells.

Antimicrobial Peptides in Early-Life Host Defense, Perinatal Infections, and Necrotizing Enterocolitis-An Update

Eleni Agakidou et al.

Summary: Host defense against early-life infections relies primarily on innate immunity, in which AMPs play a major role. AMPs possess antimicrobial, immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-repairing properties. Studies suggest that AMPs are involved in the pathogenesis of chorioamnionitis, neonatal sepsis, and NEC, and their expression and levels may be associated with disease severity. Therefore, AMPs have potential significance in the diagnosis, prevention, prognosis, and treatment of early-life infections.

Human Amniotic Membrane: A review on tissue engineering, application, and storage

Leal-Marin Sara et al.

Summary: Human amniotic membrane (hAM) is widely used in tissue engineering, particularly in skin dressing and corneal treatment, due to its extracellular matrix structure and excellent biological properties. Recent research focuses on enhancing hAM performance by creating scaffolds mimicking the native membrane structure. Preservation techniques for maintaining biological functions such as angiogenesis, anti-inflammation, antifibrotic, and antibacterial activity are also essential for native hAM and tissue-engineered products.
