The synthesis of 2-amino-chromene with high yields (82%) was achieved using basic hierarchical zeolites prepared by surfactant-templating as catalysts in a solvent-free environment. The activity of these hierarchical zeolites is more than double that of their microporous counterparts. These results demonstrate the excellent diffusivity and performance of basic hierarchical zeolites, which can be attributed to their well-developed intracrystalline mesoporosity, highly accessible and strong basic sites.
