Efficient photocatalytic degradation of high-concentration moxifloxacin over dodecyl benzene sulfonate modified graphitic carbon nitride: Enhanced photogenerated charge separation and pollutant enrichment

Pengfei Sun et al.

Summary: A visible-light-driven photocatalyst, DBS/CNNS, has been synthesized and applied for the elimination of high-concentration antibiotics in wastewater. It demonstrated efficient degradation of moxifloxacin (MOX) under visible light irradiation, breaking through the bottleneck of degrading high concentration antibiotics. The hydrophobic dodecyl benzene group and the formed sulfonyl group with strong electron-withdrawing property were beneficial for MOX enrichment and charge recombination suppression.

Industrial Chlorinated Organic Removal with Elimination of Secondary Pollution: A Perspective

Pengfei Sun et al.

Summary: Chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) emitted from industrial processes are toxic to the environment and humans. Catalytic combustion is a promising method to convert CVOCs into less harmful substances, but it still results in the formation of toxic byproducts. The combination of combustion and hydro-dechlorination processes may provide a solution for complete elimination of CVOCs without secondary pollution.

Efficient photothermal conversion for oxidation removal of formaldehyde using an rGO-CeO2 modified nickel foam monolithic catalyst

Yingshuang Li et al.

Summary: Synergistic catalysis involving thermocatalysis/photocatalysis has been attracting attention to improve the efficiency of formaldehyde degradation. In this study, a monolithic catalyst was prepared by loading reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and cerium dioxide (CeO2) on a nickel foam (NF) matrix. The synthesized catalyst exhibited a high removal efficiency of formaldehyde (>93%) under xenon light, benefiting from the photothermal conversion layer provided by rGO and the oxidation by photogenerated electrons.

Catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol over MnO2: Structure-activity description and reaction mechanism

Jie Shi et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the structure-activity relationship of MnO2 catalysts with different crystal structures towards the oxidation of benzyl alcohol. A catalytic activity descriptor is established based on theoretical and experimental investigations, and beta-MnO2 with a high surface area is successfully fabricated, showing the highest benzyl alcohol conversion rate. A Mars-van Krevelen mechanism is proposed to describe the oxidation process on the beta-MnO2 surface. This research paradigm opens up new possibilities for the rational design of metal oxide catalysts.

Efficient Photothermal Elimination of Formaldehyde under Visible Light at Room Temperature by a MnOx-Modified Multi-Porous Carbon Sphere

Wanpeng Liu et al.

Summary: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have a significant impact on the environment and human health. In this study, a monolithic photothermocatalyst was developed to eliminate formaldehyde (HCHO) through the spontaneous heating of its surface under visible light. The catalyst exhibited excellent photothermal synergistic performance and achieved a high removal efficiency of HCHO.

A Three-Dimensional Melamine Sponge Modified with MnOx Mixed Graphitic Carbon Nitride for Photothermal Catalysis of Formaldehyde

Rongyang Yin et al.

Summary: This study synthesized sponge-based catalysts with three-dimensional porosity and demonstrated their excellent photothermal catalytic performance for formaldehyde oxidation under visible light irradiation. The sponge's porous framework provided a good surface for material modification and a reliable interface for gas-solid interaction, while the polydopamine layer coated on the sponge increased the catalyst's absorption of light and adhesion of MnOX and GCN. The efficient formaldehyde oxidation was attributed to the sufficient oxygen vacancies generated by co-loaded MnOX and GCN, which facilitated the activation of more O2- in the oxidation process. The study confirmed the reaction mechanism as a classical Mars-van Krevelen mechanism based on the photo-induced thermal catalysis process.

Highly efficient simultaneous removal of HCHO and elemental mercury over Mn-Co oxides promoted Zr-AC samples

Xueyu Du et al.

Summary: The Mn2/3Co8/Zr-10-AC prepared by impregnation method showed excellent efficiency in simultaneous removal of HCHO and Hg-0, attributed to higher dispersion of active components facilitated by increased surface area and pore volume. The co-doping of MnOx-CoOx enhanced the sample with more active oxygen species and higher reducibility, leading to improved removal of HCHO and Hg-0.
