Microbial Degradation of Aldrin and Dieldrin: Mechanisms and Biochemical Pathways

Shimei Pang et al.

Summary: Aldrin and dieldrin, members of the organochlorine group of insecticides, have been widely used in agriculture but have caused severe pollution due to excessive use and a long half-life. They are highly toxic to humans and non-target organisms, leading to a global ban. Microbial degradation is considered the most promising method for their removal, and several microorganisms capable of degrading them have been identified. Degradation pathways and metabolites of aldrin and dieldrin have been investigated. This review provides a theoretical and practical basis for the bioremediation of aldrin/dieldrin-polluted environments.

A novel Z-scheme Bi-Bi2O3/KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic conversion of N2 to NH3

Lu Chen et al.

Summary: A novel Z-scheme photocatalyst Bi-Bi2O3/KTa0.5Nb0.5O3 (KTN) composite was prepared, showing higher photocatalytic ammonia-synthesis efficiency. The incomplete core-shell structure of loaded Bi-Bi2O3 nanoparticles and the presence of Bi metal improved charge separation and electron migration, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic activity.

Removal of aqueous triclosan using TiO2 nanotube arrays reactive membrane by sequential adsorption and electrochemical degradation

Xubin Qian et al.

Summary: The study investigates the removal of triclosan in water using porous TiO2 nanotube arrays as a reactive electrochemical membrane, showing efficient adsorption and degradation of TCS with stable performance during multiple cycles. The electrochemical degradation pathways of TCS on TiO2 NTA involve hydroxylation, disproportionation, dichlorination, and cleavage of ether bond under the attack of electrochemical generated center dot OH and O2 center dot-, indicating the effectiveness of the SAED method for TCS removal in waters.
