Summary: Recently, it has been found that mixed transition metal oxide (TMO)/MXene catalysts exhibit better performance in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) compared to TMO only catalysts. This study investigates the reasons behind this improvement by preparing and characterizing mixed Co(OH)(2)/Ti3C2Tx catalysts for the OER. The results show that the improved electrocatalysis in the composite material is attributed to the presence of higher Co oxide oxidation states and the mechanical stability provided by MXene.

MoS2/carbon heterostructured catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction: N-doping modulation of substrate effects in acid and alkaline electrolytes

Hugo Nolan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of N-functionalities on MoS2 supported on carbon for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance. It is found that the presence of pyridinic-N groups at the carbon support suppresses HER activity at high pH due to the modulation of deprotonation and lone-pair availability. This suggests important implications for the design of heterostructured electrocatalysts to control performance in HER electrocatalysis by exploiting synergistic/inhibitory behaviors.
