Boron nitride nanotubes synthesis from ammonia borane by an inductively coupled plasma

A. Alrebh et al.

Summary: This study presents a new method for the synthesis of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) using ammonia borane (AB) as the raw material in hydrogen-assisted thermal plasma. The results show that AB can enhance the synthesis of BNNTs with reduced impurities and increased density of nucleating seeds.

Boron Nitride Nanosheets Synthesis in Thermal Plasma: An Experimental and Modelling Analysis

Aqeel Alrebh et al.

Summary: In this study, the synthesis process of boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) was investigated using thermodynamic equilibrium calculations, computational fluid dynamics simulations, and in-situ optical emission spectroscopy. The optimal pressure for synthesis was found to be 62 kPa, and heterogeneous nucleation requires liquid boron and nitrogen, while homogeneous nucleation involves the addition of BH / BN / NH onto critical clusters.

Synthesis of boron nitride nanosheets powders using a plasma based bottom-up approach

Aqeel Alrebh et al.

Summary: This work presents two catalyst-free bottom-up approaches for synthesizing boron nitride nanosheets using induction thermal plasma, resulting in homogeneous or heterogeneous routes. By adjusting operating pressure and nitrogen loading, the nucleation and growth of BNNS can be controlled to minimize by-products. Both homogeneous and heterogeneous routes lead to BNNS structures with exceptional crystallinity and defect-free stacking.
