Influence of Composition on Energetic Properties of Copper Oxide - Aluminum Powder Nanothermite Materials Formed by Electrophoretic Deposition

Egor A. Lebedev et al.

Summary: This study investigated the reactions in composite thermite layers consisting of aluminum, cupric oxide, and cuprous oxide nanoparticles formed by electrophoretic deposition on a titanium substrate. The optimal aluminum content range was found to be 10-20%, and a model based on the probability of contact between aluminum and cupric oxide particles was proposed to explain this phenomenon.

Summary: This paper investigates the catalytic effects of nitrated graphene oxide (NGO) as an additive on Al/CuO nanocomposites, showing that adding a certain amount of NGO can enhance the reaction heat and pressurization rate. The special structure of NGO allows for tunable ignition temperature and propagation velocity of the composites, while its high electrical conductivity improves the electrostatic discharge safety of the composites.

Elucidating the dominant mechanisms in burn rate increase of thermite nanolaminates incorporating nanoparticle inclusions

Baptiste Julien et al.

Summary: The study found that the addition of silica and gold particles can enhance the combustion performance of nanothermites and increase the flame front velocity, but there are contradictions between experimental observations and theoretical analysis. It is suggested that the acceleration phenomenon may be related to chemical catalysis or mechanical mechanisms, rather than purely thermal effects.

Thermal behavior and combustion performance of Al/Bi2O3 nano thermites with the effect of potassium perchlorate

Shi Li et al.

Summary: The addition of potassium perchlorate (KClO4) was found to enhance the performance of Al/Bi2O3 nano thermites, with the highest heat release observed at 10 wt% KClO4 and the lowest activation energy at 30 wt% KClO4. This study provides a method to increase heat release or reduce activation energy by controlling the amount of added KClO4.

Carbon Fibers Enhance the Propagation of High Loading Nanothermites: In Situ Observation of Microscopic Combustion

Haiyang Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that adding carbon fibers into Al/CuO nanothermite sticks can significantly improve burn rate and heat flux, with the carbon fibers intercepting ejected hot agglomerates near the burning surface to enhance heat feedback. These approaches have the potential to enhance propagation and reduce two-phase flow losses.

High-energy Al/graphene oxide/CuFe2O4 nanocomposite fabricated by self-assembly: Evaluation of heat release, ignition behavior, and catalytic performance

Jinghua Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-energy Al/GO/CuFe2O4 nanocomposite was successfully fabricated through self-assembly guided by negatively charged graphene oxide. The optimized equivalence ratio resulted in superior heat release and ignition characteristics compared to known thermites. Additionally, the nanocomposite effectively catalyzed the thermal decomposition of RDX and AP, reducing their decomposition temperatures and activation energies.
