Antibacterial Effect of Colloidal Suspensions Varying in Silver Nanoparticles and Ions Concentrations

Varvara Platania et al.

Summary: Recent research has been dedicated to understanding the mechanism of antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) colloidal suspensions and their released silver ionic counterparts. The results show that an increase in silver ions content results in higher bactericidal activity, and the colloidal suspensions of silver nanoparticles exhibit strong antibacterial properties against different strains, making them suitable for medical devices and antimicrobial control systems.

Antimicrobial Actions and Applications of Chitosan

Cai-Ling Ke et al.

Summary: Chitosan, a naturally occurring product, has biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxic properties, making it applicable in many areas. Its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity provides great commercial potential, but varies depending on its physicochemical characteristics and type of microorganism. Understanding the fundamental properties and modes of antimicrobial action of chitosan, as well as how microorganisms genetically respond to it, can lead to better applications.
