Pickering emulgels reinforced with host-guest supramolecular inclusion complexes for high fidelity direct ink writing

Bo Pang et al.

Summary: This study addresses the challenges of rheological properties in direct ink writing of Pickering emulsions by synthesizing a dynamic supramolecular host-guest hydrogel. The resulting emulgels exhibit high storage modulus, shear thinning behavior, and precise printability, leading to diverse complex architectures with excellent shape fidelity and structural integrity. The concept of dynamic supramolecular hydrogel-reinforced emulgels represents a potentially versatile route for constructing new materials and structures via DIW for bioproducts and biomedical devices.

Insights Into Activation of Dissolving Pulp Preceding Cellulose Acetylation

Esmaeil Rasooly-Garmaroody et al.

Summary: The current study aimed to identify the most important variables in the activation phase of cellulose acetate production. Through experiments and property analysis, it was found that cellulose activation is a complex process with an inverse or contributing effect of the variables. Additionally, the study also found that the properties of cellulose can be improved by increasing reaction time under conditions of acetic acid acetylation and increased sulfuric acid catalyst consumption.

Polystyrene sulfonate is effective for enhancing biomass enzymatic saccharification under green liquor pretreatment in bioenergy poplar

Tian Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a synthetic soluble linear aromatic polymer, sodium polystyrene sulfonate (PSS), was used as an alternative to natural lignin-based polymers for enhancing the efficiency of enzymatic saccharification. PSS showed a stronger promotion effect and required a lower dosage compared to lignosulfonate (LS). The flexible and highly hydrated structure of PSS resulted in more efficient reduction of non-productive binding of cellulase onto substrate lignin, making it a promising alternative promoting agent for lignocellulose saccharification.

Binding affinity of family 4 carbohydrate binding module on cellulose films of nanocrystals and nanofibrils

Tian Liu et al.

Summary: CBM4 binds preferentially to both CNF and CNC, with different driving forces: hydrogen bonds for CNF resulting in favorable enthalpy but compensated by unfavorable entropy change, while favorable entropy for CNC but compensated by unfavorable enthalpic change due to water rearrangement.
