Synthesis of amylose and cellulose derivatives bearing bulky pendants for high-efficient chiral fluorescent sensing

Fan Wang et al.

Summary: Three novel amylose and cellulose phenylcarbamate derivatives were synthesized as chiral fluorescent sensors, showing good enantioselective properties. These derivatives demonstrated high efficiency in chiral fluorescent sensing for important chiral drug intermediates and also displayed good resolution powers as chiral stationary phases in high-performance liquid chromatography. The excitation-dependent chiral fluorescent sensing mechanism was found to be different from chromatographic enantioseparation.

Preparation of cellulose derivative bearing bulky 4-(2-benzothienyl)phenylcarbamate substituents as chiral stationary phase for enantioseparation

Fan Wang et al.

Summary: A novel cellulose derivative Cel-1 was synthesized and used to prepare a chiral stationary phase (CSP) for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Cel-1 exhibited excellent chiral recognition ability and enantioselectivity, outperforming commercially available CSPs. The bulky benzothienyl pendants on Cel-1 played a key role in its high chiral recognition ability, particularly in fluorescence quenching.

Reaction-based fluorescent probes for Hg2+, Cu2+ and Fe3+/Fe2+

Xiaojing Nan et al.

Summary: Transition metal ions play crucial roles in medicine, life sciences, and environmental science, but some like mercury, copper, and iron ions pose serious health and environmental risks due to biomagnification. Monitoring metal ion levels in organisms and the environment is urgent, and reaction-based fluorescent probes offer higher sensitivity and selectivity than traditional methods. Research on these probes for Hg2+, Cu2+, and Fe2+/Fe2+ detection has advanced in the past decade, with potential for interdisciplinary development in the future.

Cui-Xing Qi et al.

Summary: A hydrothermal reaction between 1,3-di(3',5'-dicarboxylphenyl)benzene and Tb3+ resulted in the formation of a Tb-MOF material emitting green fluorescence with characteristic transitions of Tb3+. Fe3+ was identified as the only metal cation capable of completely quenching the fluorescence of Tb-MOF, making it a quantitative turn-off fluorescence sensor for Fe3+ detection.
