Visualization of the infection risk assessment of SARS-CoV-2 through aerosol and surface transmission in a negative-pressure ward

Weiqi Guo et al.

Summary: Since December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has posed a great challenge to global public health. Nosocomial infections have been common in medical institutions worldwide. Therefore, it is urgent to establish an effective surveillance and early warning system to prevent nosocomial infections in negative-pressure wards. This study conducted a risk assessment of SARS-CoV-2 infection through aerosol and surface transmission in a negative-pressure ward, providing insights into its distribution regularity, critical factors of infection, and factors affecting infection risk. The results can serve as a theoretical reference and technical support for reducing the occurrence of nosocomial infections.

Droplet aerosols transportation and deposition for three respiratory behaviors in a typical negative pressure isolation ward

Yongxin Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the spatiotemporal distribution of droplet aerosols in a negative pressure isolation ward. The results showed that aerosols generated by coughing and speaking can be removed and deposited more quickly, and healthcare workers are at higher risk of exposure in breathing areas.

Evaluation of SARS-CoV-2 transmission in COVID-19 isolation wards: On-site sampling and numerical analysis

Wenjie Huang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19 isolation wards at Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. Air and surface samples were collected and analyzed, confirming the contamination of the wards. Computational fluid dynamics simulations supported the possibility of airborne transmission. Additionally, the study found that the use of ceiling-mounted air cleaners was effective in reducing airborne transmission.

Summary: This study focused on the risk and behavior of long-distance virus transmission in a daycare center outbreak in Korea, based on the detected viruses on air purifier filter sampling. The experiments revealed that long-distance virus transmission is possible in daycare centers, and reinforced ventilation methods and proper installation and operation of air purifiers are important countermeasures to prevent airborne spread.

Natural and Mechanical Ventilation Concepts for Indoor Comfort and Well-Being with a Sustainable Design Perspective: A Systematic Review

Luca Zaniboni et al.

Summary: This systematic review explores the impact of natural ventilation (NV) and mechanical ventilation (MV) on indoor comfort and well-being, finding that thermal-hygrometric comfort is the main driver of occupants' ventilation behavior and indoor air quality is the main focus of ventilation design. Recent research highlights the importance of a health-based approach, particularly favoring MV in public spaces and suggesting hybrid ventilation (HV) as a solution for both indoor conditions and energy savings. The study suggests the need for further exploration of well-being and other factors such as visual and acoustic comfort, as well as passive techniques and specific environments like healthcare facilities.

A comparative study of ventilation system used for the bacteria prevention in operation room in healthcare units

Ankush Jangir et al.

Summary: Bacteria or viruses can be transmitted through the airflow in enclosed spaces, with a higher risk in healthcare operation theatres. The current preventive measures are found to be inadequate in avoiding the transmission of airborne bacteria. A comparative study suggests that a temperature control airflow ventilation system is the most suitable system for hospitals, particularly in operating theatres.
