Dynamic effects of frequent step changes in outdoor microclimate environments on thermal sensation and dissatisfaction of pedestrian during summer

Jianong Li et al.

Summary: This study examines pedestrians' thermal perceptions under alternating exposure to sunlight and shade at different frequencies, aiming to improve outdoor thermal comfort. The results show that with a higher alternating frequency, there is reduced thermal dissatisfaction and lower comfort requirement for shade on hot summer days.

Study of pedestrians' mixed thermal responses when experiencing rapid and simultaneous variations in sun and wind conditions in urban continuums

Jianong Li et al.

Summary: This study observed the thermal perceptions and skin temperature of 70 college students in urban environments and found that simultaneous variations in wind and solar radiation can influence pedestrian thermal comfort, leading to an increase in acceptable air temperature range and skin temperature threshold.

Climate chamber study on thermal comfort of walking passengers at different moving speeds

Xinyu Jia et al.

Summary: Walking speed has an impact on passengers' thermal comfort and metabolic rate, leading to dynamic variations in subjective responses, mean skin temperature, and thermal sensitivity. When alternating between walking and standing, different operative temperatures affect passengers' comfort and preference.

The Street Walkability and Thermal Comfort Index (SWTCI): A new assessment tool combining street design measurements and thermal comfort

Kahina Labdaoui et al.

Summary: In recent years, the integration of walkability and thermal comfort in sustainable strategies has been emphasized. This study developed a new tool, the Street Walkability and Thermal Comfort Index (SWTCI), to assess pedestrian comfort by focusing on comfort facilities and Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) at the street scale. Results from applying SWTCI in three streets in Annaba city, Algeria, demonstrate the potential to improve uncomfortable streets into ideal walkable paths by identifying problems and proposing improvements.
