Summary: The contribution of circulating versus tissue resident memory T cells to clinical neuropathology is not well understood. This study found that tissue resident memory T cells in the brain can induce significant neuroinflammation, neuropathology, and peripheral immunosuppression. Understanding the functions of these cells is crucial in investigating their role in neurodegenerative disorders and long-term complications associated with viral infections.

Summary: We report changes in the hippocampal immune microenvironment at the single cell level after stress, uncovering the tight orchestration of immune cell infiltration into the hippocampus after stress to maintain homeostasis. Using various techniques, we observed the distribution of different immune cell types in the hippocampus and their relationship with susceptibility or resilience to the learned helplessness paradigm. We discovered the presence of tissue-resident memory T cells and CD74-expressing myeloid cells in the hippocampus, which were found to be critical for inducing resilience to learned helplessness.

Summary: Memory T cells are generated upon recognition of foreign antigens and provide fast and effective protection against reinfections. However, there is a population of memory-like T cells called virtual memory T (T-VM) cells that acquire a memory phenotype without foreign antigens. While T-VM cells have been reported to play a role in first-line defense to bacterial or viral infections, their roles in immune-related diseases such as infections and cancers are still largely unknown. This review discusses the current understanding of T-VM cells, focusing on their distinct characteristics, immunological properties, and potential roles in immune-related diseases.

Summary: This review outlines the presence of adaptive immune cells, particularly memory T cells, in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS). It focuses on the tissue-resident memory phenotype of these T cells and discusses their generation, localization, maintenance, and function in the CNS. The study highlights the importance of understanding neuroimmunity and provides insights for future research.

Summary: Chronic stress induces physiological and hormonal changes that impact neurobiological function and behavior, resembling patterns seen in psychiatric disorders. Neuroimmune systems, particularly microglia, play a critical role in regulating these effects, with evidence suggesting changes in microglia function and inflammatory signaling contribute to neuronal dysfunction and impaired neurogenesis. This highlights the potential for targeting neuroimmune mechanisms to improve treatment for psychiatric disorders.

Summary: IgG4-related disease is an immunopathological disorder characterized by abnormal infiltration of IgG4-restricted plasma cells into multiple organs. Recent research has shown that T cells play a central role in sustaining IgG4-RD, potentially driving and maintaining autoimmunity through various pathways. This highlights the importance of targeting T cells as a novel avenue for therapy in IgG4-RD.
