Elevated levels of body mass index and waist circumference, but not high variability, are associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation

Maoxiang Zhao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of obesity and variability of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) on the risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). The results showed that elevated levels of BMI and WC were associated with an increased risk of AF, while variability in BMI and WC were not. Therefore, controlling BMI and WC levels may be beneficial for AF prevention.

Analysis of the prevalence, risk factors, and clinical characteristics of osteoporosis in patients with essential hypertension

Hai-Long Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of osteoporosis among patients with essential hypertension and analyzed the correlation between hypertension and osteoporosis. The results showed that patients with essential hypertension had a higher prevalence of osteoporosis and lower bone mineral density compared to healthy controls. Various factors including age, weight, fracture history, nocturnal urination frequency, depression and anxiety, duration of hypertension, and antihypertensive medication use were found to be correlated with the presence of osteoporosis in patients with essential hypertension. Furthermore, the study found that serum creatinine levels in individuals with different bone mass profiles were significantly influenced by the presence or absence of hypertension.

Pulse pressure and all-cause mortality in ischaemic heart failure patients: a prospective cohort study

Weida Qiu et al.

Summary: We observed a J-shaped relationship between pulse pressure (PP) and all-cause mortality in ischemic heart failure (HF) patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD), with a risk nadir of approximately 46-49 mmHg. The risk of all-cause mortality varied with systolic blood pressure (SBP) status, and higher PP was associated with worse prognosis when SBP was above 110 mmHg.

The association between blood pressure variability and hip or vertebral fracture risk: A population-based study

Jiandong Zhou et al.

Summary: The study revealed a significant association between blood pressure variability and the risk of hip/vertebral fractures in middle-aged and elderly patients. Incorporating measures of blood pressure variability into existing clinical scores can help improve risk stratification.
