COVID-19 pandemic and waiting times in outpatient specialist care in Germany: an empirical analysis

Summary: The study analyzed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on waiting times for outpatient specialist care in Germany. It showed that average waiting times decreased for both patients with statutory and private health insurance, but inequalities in access to healthcare remained based on insurance status and regional supply levels. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the probability of not receiving an appointment at all during the pandemic.

Can COVID-19 Increase the Risk of Herpes Zoster? A Narrative Review

Summary: Herpes zoster (HZ), caused by reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV), may be associated with T cell dysfunction in COVID-19 patients, especially those with lymphopenia. While there have been reports of HZ following COVID-19, current evidence from case reports and case series is insufficient to determine if COVID-19 increases the risk of HZ. Practitioners should be aware of a possible increased risk of HZ during the pandemic and consider appropriate therapeutic and preventive measures.
