Patterns of six behaviors and psychosomatic symptoms in adolescents: A six-province study in China

Danlin Li et al.

Summary: This study identified patterns of six behaviors among Chinese adolescents and explored their association with psychosomatic symptoms. The results showed that all six behaviors were related to psychosomatic symptoms, and different behavior patterns had different levels of impact on these symptoms.

Associations of 12-year sleep behaviour trajectories from childhood to adolescence with myopia and ocular biometry during young adulthood

Summary: This study found no association between 12-year trajectories of sleep behavior and myopia in young adults. Future longitudinal studies should investigate sleep trajectory data pre- and post-myopia diagnosis to confirm these results.

Near work, screen time, outdoor time and myopia in schoolchildren in the Sunflower Myopia AEEC Consortium

Summary: Increased reading and writing and decreased outdoor time were associated with myopia in children, while screen time may serve as a surrogate factor. Further research is needed to determine its independent role as a risk factor for myopia.

A comparative study of the prevalence of myopia and behavioral changes in primary school students

Haishao Xiao et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the changes in the prevalence of myopia and its relation to ocular biological parameters and behaviors among primary school students in China. The results showed that compared to 2012, the prevalence of myopia decreased in 2019 among primary school students, which may be related to improved near-work behavior, but there was a problem of insufficient outdoor activity time.

A longitudinal study of the effect of ocular biometrics measures on myopia onset

Zhengyang Tao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between ocular biometrics and onset of myopia, finding that the axial length to corneal radius ratio had the strongest correlation with spherical equivalent refractive error. As myopia progressed, this correlation increased. Additionally, baseline values of this ratio were higher in students who developed myopia within 1.5 years.

Latent Class Analysis of Multiple Health Risk Behaviors among Australian University Students and Associations with Psychological Distress

Melinda J. Hutchesson et al.

Summary: University students in Australia exhibit varying patterns of health behaviors, with three main classes identified: healthier, moderate, and unhealthy. Those in the moderate and unhealthy classes have higher odds of experiencing psychological distress, as well as being associated with certain demographic characteristics. These findings suggest the potential for targeted mental health interventions for university students focusing on key health risk behaviors.

Insights into the mechanism by which atropine inhibits myopia: evidence against cholinergic hyperactivity and modulation of dopamine release

Kate Thomson et al.

Summary: In chicks, cholinergic agonists inhibit form-deprivation myopia development but have no effect on normal eye growth; atropine only affects dopamine and DOPAC levels at its highest dose; dopamine antagonists do not alter the antimyopia effects of atropine.

Time trend of axial length and associated factors in 4-and 5-year-old children in Shanghai from 2013 to 2019

Tao Li et al.

Summary: The axial length of 4- and 5-year-old children in Shanghai remained relatively stable from 2013 to 2019. Significant differences were observed in spherical equivalent, horizontal and vertical corneal curvature, height, and weight during this time period. Factors associated with axial length included gender and time spent outdoors for both age groups. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm the relationship between axial length elongation and environmental risk factors.
