Genome-Wide Identification of MADS-Box Family Genes in Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and Functional Analysis of CtMADS24 during Flowering

Yifei Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified MADS-box transcription factors in safflower and characterized a putative CtMADS24 gene during vegetative and reproductive growth. The CtMADS24 gene was found to play an important regulatory role in floral organ development.

CtCYP71A1 promotes drought stress tolerance and lignin accumulation in safflower and Arabidopsis

Qingyu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the CtCYP71A1 gene was identified in safflower and found to play a crucial role in drought tolerance through lignin accumulation. The expression of CtCYP71A1 was regulated by various factors and showed an increasing trend under PEG stress, while it was initially upregulated and subsequently downregulated under ABA, GA3, and SA stress. Overexpression of CtCYP71A1 enhanced drought tolerance and positively regulated other genes involved in lignin biosynthesis.

VIGS Goes Viral: How VIGS Transforms Our Understanding of Plant Science

Clemens Roessner et al.

Summary: Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) is an indispensable method for gene function analysis, especially in species not amenable to genetic transformation. It controls viral infections by utilizing the plant's gene silencing mechanism and is widely used for gene downregulation. Recently, VIGS technology has been expanded to achieve gene overexpression, genome editing, and host-induced gene silencing.

GhHAI2, GhAHG3, and GhABI2 Negatively Regulate Osmotic Stress Tolerance via ABA-Dependent Pathway in Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Hamna Shazadee et al.

Summary: This study revealed that GhHAI2, GhAHG3, and GhABI2 act as negative regulators in the osmotic stress response in cotton through ABA-mediated signaling. Silencing of these genes improved osmotic tolerance in cotton, leading to decreased water loss, increased relative water content and photosynthetic gas exchange, higher antioxidant enzyme activity, and lower malondialdehyde content.

Tracing Key Molecular Regulators of Lipid Biosynthesis in Tuber Development of Cyperus esculentus Using Transcriptomics and Lipidomics Profiling

Liyan Wang et al.

Summary: Cyperus esculentus is considered an important oil crop providing edible tubers called tiger nut. Through comprehensive transcriptomics and lipidomics analyses, it was found that lipid accumulation, especially phospholipids and glycerides, significantly increases during tuber development. This study identified key candidate transcripts and highlighted the central role of lipid biosynthesis in understanding the molecular mechanism of tuber development in tiger nut.

CaADIP1-dependent CaADIK1-kinase activation is required for abscisic acid signalling and drought stress response in Capsicum annuum

Soongon Jeong et al.

Summary: CaADIK1 positively regulates the ABA-dependent drought stress response and its kinase activity is enhanced by drought stress. CaADIK1-silenced pepper plants exhibit drought-sensitive phenotypes, while CaADIK1-OX Arabidopsis plants show ABA-sensitive and drought-tolerant phenotypes. Mutations at the ATP-binding site in CaADIK1(K32N)-OX Arabidopsis plants restore ABA-insensitive and drought-sensitive phenotypes.

Approaches for the amelioration of adverse effects of drought stress on crop plants

Anamika Dubey et al.

Summary: Climate change, water scarcity, population growth, and food shortage pose threatening challenges in the world today. Drought stress is a persistent challenge for global food production, with its severity expected to increase in the future. Sustainable solutions are urgently needed to mitigate the negative impact of drought stress on plants.
