Characterization of an New Delhi-Metallo-1-ProducingEnterobacter cloacaeST418 Strain from a Patient in Guangzhou, China

Mei Xue et al.

Summary: The study identified an NDM-1-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae strain in a patient in Guangzhou, which exhibited resistance to multiple antibiotics. The strain carried four plasmids, including the gene responsible for multidrug resistance. The coexistence of these plasmids increases the likelihood of rapid horizontal spread of multidrug resistance genes.

Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacter cloacae complex in a tertiary Hospital in Northeast China, 2010-2019

Jingjing Chen et al.

Summary: This study revealed a rapid increase in the detection rate of CREC over a ten-year period, with high resistance rates to imipenem and meropenem but high sensitivity to tigecycline, polymyxin B, and amikacin. Molecular epidemiology showed ST93 as the predominant sequence type, with NDM-1 and NDM-5 as the main carbapenemase-encoding genes.

Characterization of resistance mechanisms of Enterobacter cloacae Complex co-resistant to carbapenem and colistin

Shixing Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that the resistance mechanisms of carbapenem-resistant and colistin-resistant ECC strains do not overlap, but the presence of ECC strains carrying multiple resistance genes may pose a potential risk for the spread of carbapenem and colistin resistance.

Molecular Mechanisms and Epidemiology of Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacter cloacae Complex Isolated from Chinese Patients During 2004-2018

Shixing Liu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that carbapenem-nonsusceptible ECC strains producing non-carbapenemase were predominant, and their resistance mechanisms were clarified. In addition, the overexpression of efflux pump was also associated with carbapenem resistance. The MLST results demonstrated the genetic diversity of ECC strains.

Molecular Characterization of KPC-2-Producing Enterobacter cloacae Complex Isolates from Cali, Colombia

Aura Falco et al.

Summary: The study aimed to molecularly characterize 28 isolates of the E. cloacae complex resistant to cephalosporins and carbapenems from five hospitals in Cali, Colombia. It found that 43% of the isolates carried the bla(KPC-2) gene variant. High genetic diversity was observed among isolates, with the most common sequence type being ST510.

Summary: ESBL-producing Gram-negative pathogens are major contributors to antimicrobial resistance, with CTM-M-15 and ST131 being the most commonly found types. Diagnostic tools play a crucial role in early identification of ESBLs, ultimately impacting clinical outcomes.
