Upturn Strategies for Arachidonic Acid-Induced MC3T3-E1-625 nm Irradiation in Combination with NSAIDs: Dissipating Inflammation and Promoting Healing

Danyang Liu et al.

Summary: Oral surgery, such as tooth extractions and dental implantations, can cause inflammation in the bones. Anti-inflammatory drugs and light-emitting diode irradiation (LEDI) at 625 nm have been used to reduce inflammation and promote wound healing. In this study, the efficacy of LEDI, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or a combination of both on anti-inflammatory and wound healing effects were analyzed. LEDI and NSAIDs both reduced cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and prostaglandin E-2 (PGE(2)). LEDI also promoted cell migration, proliferation, and bone formation, while NSAIDs did not. Therefore, the combination of LEDI and NSAIDs can provide a beneficial strategy for bone healing after tooth extraction.

Randomized controlled trials from January 2012 to December 2021 were included. The risk of bias in the studies was assessed using the Cochrane tool, and the quality of evidence was assessed using GRADE. Statistical analyses showed that EA had a higher effective rate and significantly improved Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) stiffness scores compared to the control group. However, EA and analgesics had similar effects on visual analog scale scores, pain, and joint function. EA is effective in treating KOA by improving clinical symptoms and quality of life.

Electroacupuncture treatment reduces the expression of CXCL12 by inhibiting the activation of NF-kappa B, which leads to the suppression of cancer-induced bone pain.

Placebo effect in pharmacological management of fibromyalgia: a meta-analysis

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: The management of fibromyalgia involves a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, although controversy remains. The use of placebo has been proven to be more effective than no treatment in many clinical settings, but the actual magnitude of the placebo effect is still controversial.

Electroacupuncture Pretreatment Prevents Cognitive Impairment Induced by Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion via Adenosine A1 Receptors in Rats

Yiyi Shi et al.

Summary: This study found that electroacupuncture pretreatment upregulated the expression of A1 receptor in the rat hippocampus, reversed cognitive impairment, and played a role in neuroprotection after focal cerebral ischemia. Using A1 receptor agonist CCPA, antagonist DPCPX, and A1 short interfering RNA further confirmed the important role of A1 receptor in this process.

Brain Network to Placebo and Nocebo Responses in Acute Experimental Lower Back Pain: A Multivariate Granger Causality Analysis of fMRI Data

Yu Shi et al.

Summary: This study investigated nocebo hyperalgesia and placebo analgesia responses in an acute lower back pain model using multivariate Granger causality analysis. The results suggest that placebo mainly works by activating the reward system and inhibiting pain-related network, while nocebo works in the opposite way. The study also found that the two networks share some brain regions but also have unique structural features.

Manual Therapy in Cervical and Lumbar Radiculopathy: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Tomasz Kuligowski et al.

Summary: The study aimed to provide an updated understanding of the accuracy of manual therapy in treating cervical and lumbar radiculopathy, pointing out the challenges in the current research and the need for quality improvement. Traction-oriented techniques showed efficiency in reducing pain and improving functional outcomes in cervical radiculopathy, while diversity in manual therapy forms made it challenging to summarize knowledge in lumbar radiculopathy.

Effectiveness of five-element music therapy in cancer patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Ting Yang et al.

Summary: Five-element music therapy was found to be effective in relieving depression, improving quality of life, enhancing sleep quality, and increasing Karnofsky performance score in cancer patients. However, it did not show a positive effect on anxiety. Future research should focus on optimizing study designs and conducting more high-quality, large-scale, multi-center randomized controlled trials.

The Challenges and Perspectives of the Integration Between Virtual and Augmented Reality and Manual Therapies

Francesco Cerritelli et al.

Summary: Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have been integrated with manual therapies (MTs) to improve patient care, particularly focusing on areas like balance and chronic pain that require both physical and psychological interventions. MTs rely on touch-based stimulation, while VR and AR rely on visual, auditory, and proprioceptive stimulations. The combination of MTs with VR and AR could enhance patient immersion in virtual experiences, address pain-related emotional issues, and promote sensorimotor integration.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of virtual reality-assisted cognitive behavioral therapy (VRCBT) in treating anxiety and depression in patients with anxiety disorders. The results showed that VRCBT had better therapeutic effects on anxiety and depression compared to the waiting list group, and similar effects to standard CBT. The comparison of withdrawal rates between VRCBT and CBT did not reach statistical significance.
