Key outcomes for reporting in studies of pregnant women with multiple long-term conditions: a qualitative study

Siang Ing Lee et al.

Summary: This study conducted a qualitative research to inform a core outcome set for studies of pregnant women with multiple long-term conditions. The findings identified 63 outcomes in total, including maternal, children's, and health care utilization outcomes. The study also revealed that women and partners had higher expectations for involvement in care decisions and being informed about the risks, while health care professionals emphasized non-clinical and longer-term outcomes.

Summary: Our research highlights the importance of respectful risk communication that values women's autonomy and allows them to make decisions about their own pregnancies. A layered approach to risk communication is needed, taking into account individual preferences for precautionary behavior or evidence-based information. Younger women and women with higher BMIs may experience stigmatization in maternity care, emphasizing the need for less judgment and more individualized care from healthcare providers.
