Association of adiposity indices with prehypertension among Chinese adults: A cross-sectional study

Mengyuan Xiao et al.

Summary: This study compared the association of different adiposity indices with prehypertension in the Chinese non-hypertensive population. Waist circumference and body mass index were found to be strongly associated with prehypertension. Therefore, controlling obesity is the preferred prevention strategy for prehypertension.

Body Roundness Index and Waist-Hip Ratio Result in Better Cardiovascular Disease Risk Stratification: Results From a Large Chinese Cross-Sectional Study

Ying Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the best indicators of cardiovascular disease risk factors (CVDRFs) and their optimal thresholds within each BMI category among Chinese individuals. The results showed that the body roundness index (BRI) and waist-hip ratio (WHR) were superior to other indices in predicting CVDRFs among the Chinese population, except for chronic kidney disease (CKD) or hypercholesterolemia.

Associations between consumption of three types of beverages and risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity in UK Biobank participants: a prospective cohort study

Yi Luo et al.

Summary: This study found that consuming more than one serving of sugar-sweetened beverages and artificially sweetened beverages per day was associated with a higher risk of developing cardiometabolic multimorbidity in patients with a single cardiometabolic disease. In contrast, the intake of pure fruit/vegetable juices per day was inversely associated with the risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity.

Xiangming Hu et al.

Summary: The implementation of China's clean air action plan has significantly reduced levels of PM1, PM2.5, PM10, and NO2, which can slow down the decline of cognitive function, while a reduction in O-3 may not have the same effect.

Effects of potential risk factors on the development of cardiometabolic multimorbidity and mortality among the elders in China

Huihui Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that factors like being female, living in the city, being overweight or obese were associated with the development of cardiometabolic multimorbidity, while being female, higher socioeconomic status, lack of regular physical activity, smoking, inadequate sleep, overweight, and obesity were linked to a higher risk for the first cardiometabolic disease. Additionally, being unmarried, having lower SES, and unhealthy behavioral patterns were risk factors for mortality.

Mbelege Rosina Nkwana et al.

Summary: The study found significant correlations between BRI and insulin, HOMA-β, and TG, while Conicity Index was significantly associated with pulse rate, insulin resistance, underweight, and obesity. These findings highlight the relationship between these indices and nutritional status, as well as cardiovascular diseases.

Waist-to-height ratio, waist circumference, body mass index, waist A national longitudinal cohort study

Yanqiang Lu et al.

Summary: The study found that waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist circumference (WC), waist divided by height0.5 (WHT.5R) and body mass index (BMI) are independent predictors of cardiometabolic multimorbidity in the middle-aged and older Chinese population. Furthermore, WHtR, WC, and WHT.5R exhibit better predictive abilities for cardiometabolic multimorbidity compared to BMI.
