Postpartum haemorrhage trends in Sweden using the Robson ten group classification system: a population-based cohort study

L. Ladfors et al.

Summary: The study found an overall increase in postpartum haemorrhage rates in Sweden from 2000 to 2016, with varying rates between different Robson groups. Changes in risk factors could not fully explain the 37% increase in PPH among women in Robson groups 1-5.

Severe maternal morbidity in Scotland

J. A. Masterson et al.

Summary: Using a cohort study design, this research examined the severe maternal morbidity rates in pregnancies recorded in Scotland over 14 years. The study found that older women, obese women, women with multiple pregnancies, and those with previous caesarean deliveries had a higher risk of severe maternal morbidity. The incidence of severe maternal morbidity increased over the study period, potentially due to better recording of puerperal sepsis. Additionally, the study found that severe maternal morbidity was associated with longer hospital stays and higher mortality rates.

Severe Maternal Morbidity: A Comparison of Definitions and Data Sources

Jonathan M. Snowden et al.

Summary: Severe maternal morbidity (SMM) is a serious issue that requires attention in research and clinical practice. In the United States, there are various commonly used definitions of SMM, but there is low concordance between them, especially regarding transfusion, claims data, and birth certificate definitions. Further research on the validity of SMM definitions using more detailed data sources is needed.

Summary: This study analyzed racial and ethnic disparities in failure to rescue from severe maternal morbidity, finding higher rates among Black and other racial and ethnic groups, slightly lower among Hispanic women, with a significant increase in severe maternal morbidity rates in all groups but a decline starting in 2012. The study also noted a decrease in failure-to-rescue rates during the entire study period.

Summary: The study found that labor duration is an independent factor for uterine rupture among women attempting vaginal delivery after cesarean section. Medical induction and labor augmentation increase the risk, regardless of maternal and birth characteristics.
