Summary: In this study, a low-cost, label-free flexible paper-based microfluidic SERS sensor was developed for thiram detection. Hydrophilic wells of different sizes were created on paper using wax-coated mould printing, and the hydrophilic nature of the wells was confirmed. Silver nanoparticles decorated graphene oxide nano-hybrid (Ag-rGO) was synthesized and drop-casted onto the wells for thiram detection, achieving fM sensitivity with a low limit of detection and high enhancement factor. The reproducibility and uniformity of the fabricated substrates were tested, showing good results. The Ag-rGO/wax paper (Ag-rGO/WP) SERS sensor has the potential to be used as a portable sensing platform for food safety applications.

Summary: To overcome the distortion of fluorescent images by mobile devices, a dual-mode strategy was developed to achieve undistorted visual fluorescent sensing on & mu;PAD by manipulating the coffee-ring effect of the fluid sample. By dividing the resulting fluorescence image into 600 pixels and using a fluorescent probe, accurate quantitative information was obtained to avoid image distortion. This strategy, combined with a small imaging box and a smartphone, allows for rapid testing of histidine in human urine and improved antidistortion for visual fluorescent sensing.

Summary: A controllable light-responsive multifunctional nanozyme, named Mn-CdTe particles, has been designed for the fluorometric/colorimetric dual-mode detection of toxic mercury ions (Hg2+) at ambient pH. The Mn-CdTe exhibits a light-triggered oxidase-mimicking catalytic behavior and bright photo-luminescence. The aggregation of Mn-CdTe induced by Hg2+ leads to the quenching of luminescence and a decrease in oxidase-mimetic activity.

Summary: In this study, manganese-doped carbon dots (Mn-CDs) with excellent oxidase properties were successfully synthesized. The doped manganese effectively modulated the spin density and charge distribution of CDs, reducing the band gap. It was also found that the content of doped manganese positively correlated with the catalytic capacity of Mn-CDs. These Mn-CDs can function as pseudo-oxidases in real cell environments.
