Inherently separated syngas production from plastic waste fast pyrolysis integrated with volatile chemical looping conversion with CO2 splitting

Guicai Liu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new concept of converting plastic waste into high-value products and utilizing CO2 through fast pyrolysis integrated with volatile chemical looping CO2 splitting. Three conversion modes were evaluated, and it was found that the cracking mode with Ni/Al2O3 or Ni/MgAl2O4 catalyst exhibited better performance in fuel conversion and syngas separation. The cracking mode's efficiency increased with higher temperature, but the interaction between Ni and the support limited the full separation of syngas.

Chemical looping partial oxidation (CLPO) of toluene on LaFeO3 perovskites for tunable syngas production

Yi Lv et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of LaFeO3 perovskites as oxygen carriers for the chemical looping partial oxidation (CLPO) process to convert tar to high-purity syngas. The template synthesis method demonstrates the best performance, with high toluene conversion efficiency, CO selectivity, and recyclability. The H2/CO ratio in the syngas products can be adjusted within a certain range by controlling the reaction time of toluene catalytic cracking. The research also proposes a new in-situ CLPO process for tar-containing syngas purification to achieve tunable H2/CO ratio.

Oxygen uncoupling chemical looping gasification of biomass over heterogeneously doped La-Fe-O perovskite-type oxygen carriers

Changxin Li et al.

Summary: OU-CLG is a novel concept in the field of BCLG that optimizes traditional gas-solid reactions by introducing molecular oxygen. The results showed that the gasification performance is improved by Co doping, but is not positively correlated with the degree of oxygen uncoupling. Further characterizations revealed changes in the physical structure and reducibility due to Co doping, as well as the formation of disordered reactive oxygen species and oxygen uncoupling vacancies.

Enhanced redox performance of LaFeO3 perovskite through in-situ exsolution of iridium nanoparticles for chemical looping steam methane reforming

Yikyeom Kim et al.

Summary: Chemical looping steam methane reforming (CL-SMR) can produce high-purity hydrogen without additional separation units. The reactivity of LaFeO3 oxygen carrier towards methane can be enhanced by introducing a small amount of iridium. Both particle reduction and oxidation were significantly improved by the presence of iridium, and the preparation pathways of oxygen carriers greatly affected the long-term performance. Although surface iridium species prepared by an impregnation method were severely aggregated during successive redox cycling, B-site incorporation of iridium led to the exsolution of IrOx nanoparticles anchored on the perovskite host and enhanced redox stability, which is essential for the long-term operation of the chemical looping process.

Products distribution during in situ and ex situ catalytic fast pyrolysis of Chinese herb residues

Bo Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the differences between in situ and ex situ catalytic fast pyrolysis methods for biomass treatment. It finds that both methods can improve the quality of bio-oil but decrease the yield. In situ CFP process prevents the transfer of heteroatoms to bio-oil while ex situ CFP process promotes the transfer. Additionally, ex situ CFP reaction significantly increases the content of aromatic hydrocarbons.
