Summary: This paper used five different types of biosurfactants to enhance the saccharification efficiency in the enzymatic hydrolysis process. The addition of sophorolipid increased the enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency by 30.65%, while the combination of sophorolipid and tea saponin further increased the efficiency to 99.56%. These biosurfactants acted synergistically to inhibit enzymatic inactivation and non-productive adsorption of lignin. This study proposes an effective method to improve enzymatic hydrolysis efficiency and reduce enzyme dosage by utilizing biosurfactants.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a low-cost, green, and highly efficient method for obtaining fermentable sugar, hemicellulose, and modified lignin from reed. A combination of liquid hot water-ammonia/oxygen pretreatment and non-ionic surfactants-enhanced enzymatic hydrolysis was used to solve the problem of hemicellulose and lignin separation. The addition of polyethylene glycol increased the enzymatic digestibility of pretreated reed.

Summary: Biomass pretreatment is crucial for lignocellulosic bioconversion. This study explored a reusable organic solvent system to pretreat poplar under mild conditions. The results showed that the system could extract hemicelluloses and part of lignin while retaining the original cellulose. Sulfonic acid groups were introduced into the lignin structure, promoting enzymatic hydrolysis and significantly improving glucose conversion yield.

Summary: Efficiently producing second-generation biofuels from biomass remains a long-term challenge due to biomass recalcitrance. Lignin significantly contributes to biomass recalcitrance by physically limiting enzyme access to carbohydrates. Research is focused on mitigating the negative effects of lignin on enzyme performance.

Summary: This study proposed a light perturbation strategy to enhance the growth and hydrogen production of photosynthetic bacteria. The experiment showed that light perturbation at 6000 Lux and 24 hours significantly increased the hydrogen yield and production rate, as well as the dry weight of bacteria. Matrix scatter analysis revealed a close relationship between the hydrogen production rate and cumulative hydrogen production after perturbation.

Summary: Innovative schemes for lignocellulosic biomass refining using mild alkaline-sulfite chemithermomechanical processing were used to pretreat sugarcane bagasse, producing digestible solids and diluted lignosulfonates. The optimized reaction conditions enhanced the lignosulfonate concentration. Mass balance analysis showed that most of the lignin was converted into lignosulfonates. 2D-NMR analysis confirmed the suitability of the prepared lignosulfonate for various applications.
