Acute stress of the typical disinfectant glutaraldehyde-didecyldimethylammonium bromide (GD) on sludge microecology in livestock wastewater treatment plants: Effect and its mechanisms

Yuxin Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the disinfectants glutaraldehyde and didecyldimethylammonium bromide (GD) have negative impacts on the microbial ecology of wastewater treatment plants, leading to decreased nitrogen and carbon removal rates. Microorganisms exhibit different survival strategies in terms of resistance and adaptation, and low concentrations of disinfectants may promote the spread of resistance genes among microorganisms.

Disinfectants against African Swine Fever: An Updated Review

Maria Serena Beato et al.

Summary: African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly lethal disease in suids that is transmitted through direct and indirect contact with infected animals and contaminated objects. The spread of ASF in Europe has revealed gaps in our understanding of transmission mechanisms. Due to the lack of vaccines, biosecurity measures and cleaning and disinfection procedures are essential for controlling the spread of ASF in pig farms.

Summary: This paper compares the habitats and characteristics of anammox bacteria of different genera from the perspective of their diversity. It also reviews the laboratory research and engineering applications of anammox technology in treating wastewater from different sources, clarifying the progress and obstacles to the practical application of anammox technology. Furthermore, it proposes a focus for future research and develops a combined process on this basis.

Effects of chlorine disinfectants on the microbial community structure and the performance of anaerobic digestion of swine manure

Zhijiang Shao et al.

Summary: Residual chlorine disinfectants can inhibit anaerobic digestion, particularly in the initial stage of mesophilic conditions. Inhibitory effects were reduced in thermophilic conditions, but a decrease in CMPu was observed later. Microbial analysis revealed enrichment of chlorine-resistant bacteria and archaea due to the presence of residual chlorine disinfectants.

Viricidal activity of several disinfectants against African swine fever virus

Cheng-gang Jiang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the virucidal activity of six common disinfectants against ASFV and found that these disinfectants can completely inactivate the virus at specific concentrations and exposure times, but their effectiveness is reduced in the presence of organic material contamination. In order to enhance biosecurity, disinfection procedures should include thorough mechanical cleaning followed by application of the disinfectant.
