Antioxidant capacity and antitumor activity of the bioactive protein prepared from orange peel residues as a by-product using fungal protease

Samia A. Ahmed et al.

Summary: Agricultural and industrial residues are renewable biomass sources that contribute to pollution. Converting these residues into eco-friendly products reduces their environmental impact and production costs. In this study, orange peel protein was degraded using Aspergillus niger WA 2017 protease, resulting in a hydrolysate with high antioxidant capacity and antitumor activity.

Anti-Obesity Evaluation of Averrhoa carambola L. Leaves and Assessment of Its Polyphenols as Potential α-Glucosidase Inhibitors

Nehal S. Ramadan et al.

Summary: The aqueous methanol leaf extract of Averrhoa carambola L. (CLK) was found to have significant anti-obese activity in an obese rat model. Fourteen compounds were isolated and identified, including new compounds not previously reported in A. carambola L. leaves and compounds isolated for the first time from the Family Oxalidaceae. Flavone glycosides showed potential as antidiabetic agents, while dihydrochalcone glycosides showed weaker activity.

A Mechanism of Isoorientin-Induced Apoptosis and Migration Inhibition in Gastric Cancer AGS Cells

Tong Zhang et al.

Summary: Isoorientin induces autophagy in gastric cancer cells and inhibits cell migration by regulating multiple signaling pathways. It induces apoptosis in gastric cancer cells through a mitochondria-dependent pathway and increases ROS levels. The increase of ROS levels also leads to cell cycle arrest and the inhibition of cell migration.

Joint structural annotation of small molecules using liquid chromatography retention order and tandem mass spectrometry data

Eric Bach et al.

Summary: Structural annotation of small molecules in biological samples remains a challenge in untargeted metabolomics. In this study, a machine learning framework called LC-MS(2)Struct is proposed to improve the annotation accuracy by combining state-of-the-art MS2 scorers and observed retention orders. The method demonstrates significantly higher annotation accuracy and highlights the importance of stereochemistry-aware molecular fingerprints for future LC-MS2 developments.

Summary: The three pentacyclic triterpenes isolated from Jatropha macrantha Mull.Arg., namely oleanolic acid, azarolic acid, and 3-oxo euscaphic acid, showed anti-inflammatory and anti-melanogenic activities. Among them, azarolic acid exhibited the highest inhibitory activity on NF-kappa B production and tyrosinase, as well as similar Nrf2 activation potential to the positive control.
